I appreciate that you've submitted 400 applications, but was every single one tailored to the role and given your full attention throughout the process? Did you receive 400 constructive feedback sessions and take notes to improve the next app? Because that in itself would take up a significant amount of your time, and after 400 improvements I'd expect it to be perfect.
I think the OP would be lucky to get 10 constructive feedback sessions out of 400 applications. From us, you'll get an email saying "other applications were better tailored to the job description and person specification", and I know that's more than many employers will do. We will give feedback if we interview you, but not otherwise.

But the point about tailoring to the role is critical. Sending the same application to more than one vacancy is probably pointless.

I can definitely understand that logic. My mistake for making that assumption, although if my CV were rejected by anyone that would be cause for at least a review, if not for revisions to be made.

I would certainly expect feedback from any unsuccessful interviews at the very least. Although it would take much less than 400 applications before I hired a professional CV writing company!

Where I volunteer we are often recruiting because of volunteers getting paid work outside of our organisation. Most of them say that the volunteering has helped with their job seeking

It's a pain in the neck for our organisation - recruiting/training etc but it's great news for them. To be honest OP I am not sure what you have to lose

Think about it. Volunteering even in a charity shop will give you skills such as cash handling, problem solving. Communication , meeting people of different backgrounds, time management.

It will give you skills to add on Cv which could get you a job quicker. Would you rather get a job quicker with skills or just wait longer and have no skills to put on cv. Volunteering will look good on cv.
It gets you out the house and gets you into routine maybe after volunteering shift you can job search in local library. It gives you an idea what to plan around working time.
I would take it if I were you. I remember someone on here didn't want to do it and people advised him to to do it. 9 month later he was back moaning he still hasn't got a job because he didn't have the skills needed and people told him he should have done volunteering he knew he should have but still moaning he wasn't any further forward

Is it volunteering you organise yourself or is it the one job centre organise after w few week. I was offered an admin stint but in the end I couldn't do it because my work kept changing days j was in. I was working 6 hours a week. I had a good excuse they tried to sort a new one but couldn't. They can sanction you if you refuse to do it I belive

Fortunate the people on this forum are prepared to give their time for free to advise you, no?

    Put your hands up.
  • Thank you for all the feedback - I would like to say I apologise if I have offended anyone and I will look into volunteering work and I will be honest if I say I would like for it to lead to something permanent.

It's fine to want that, but being realistic, do you want to work for an organisation which uses volunteers to do jobs for which they really ought to be paying staff?

    I know I wouldn't.

    Well no

But taking where I volunteer into consideration... It's not about volunteers re paid staff. It's about a lack of funding which means that the best way of keeping the whole thing going is by using volunteers.

Not about the organisation - more about the financing
