Non standard shower tray

We have an alcove in our bathroom which we want to turn into a wall to wall shower. The space is 1460mm x 800mm, but obviously standard size shower trays won't fit.

Is there any solution to this? I'm assuming cutting a 1500 down t size isn't a great idea and having one custom made is a very expensive option.

There is an existing 1400 x 800 cubicle in the space, but it leaves a void space at the end which I can't even reach down to clean.

    There are 2 options:

    1. Sit the tray into the wall at each end by 20mm.

2 build one wall out at one end by 60mm using stud work and plasterboard so that you can fit a 1400mm tray in wall to wall.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

Thank you so much, hadn't even considered sitting it into the wall. Perfect solution!

Just remember to measure the gap you will have left if you go down this route because you might find you can't get a screen/door to fit

Option 3: Tile the whole area - as in a wet room

You won't get a door to fit if you recess the tray into the wall. You would end up with a undersized door and a ugly extension profile

I'd frame the wall but don't expect many 1300 enclosures, you'd be better going down to 1200 for a mich wider cheaper choice

If you have a walk in shower cubicle the door isn't a worry at all OP.

Thanks all. The plan for the door was to have a wall to wall sliding door, I have found one that will work in gaps of 1460-1520.

We don't want to spend too much on the bathroom as we are just about to do an extension. We actually only had the bathroom done (in a hurry, I was heavily pregnant) three years ago and I made so many mistakes with the design.

The shower cubicle that we have has corroded badly so it has to be replaced & I am just trying to right one of my mistakes at the same time!

You have 20mm of tile to allow for

Most enclosure are under sized so a 1200 would usually go 1150-1180

As andy said you have a gap of 1460 & will lose another 20mm for tiles so now you have 1440 so your sliding door won't fit

Id definitely frame out to either a 1400 or 1200 if the range of trays are better. If you frame out to the 1200 dimension make sure you do something useful with the 200mm of space, storage etc.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!
