Bought van. Need advice

Options
Hello guys.
I've just bought van. Dealer gave me V5C/2 (green slip). Mot expires in 1 month. Can I tax this car on my name and insure it? Or I have to wait until log book arrive in my name?

If I can insure what I should choose at owner field?

I hope you got me. Thank you

You can tax it online using the ref.number on the slip. And insure it.

As for owner, you've bought it ...

If they ask " are you the reg keeper?" You can safely say yes.

And what about SORN? Can I sorn it for a while only with V5C/2. Van is in garage.

Edit: I've found out that I can't sorn it yet because seller haven't informed yet that I'm new keeper.

Also is it possible to insure car without MOT? I know it's against the law to drive without MOT.
  • Yes it can be insured without an mot.

Yes you can, SORN declaration will register you as new keeper.

    Tax it as well?

The reason for this thread is ill sorn it for 3months. But MOT expires in 1month. After 3 months I'll insure it, tax it, arrange MOT and then drive to MOT centre (0.5 mile).

I just want to make sure I'll be able to insure it and tax it without MOT. Thank you guys

You cannot tax it without an MOT, but are permitted to take it for an MOT when not taxed.

You cannot tax and SORN it. One or the other.

Its either insured and taxed or SORN'd. If not expect a nice bill from the DVLA to remind you.

I just had a log book arrive 2 days after buying the car.
