Tax Credits Payments Stopped Help!!

Hi

Anyone know how long it takes to restart payments after tax credit payments have been stopped?????

I am a self-employed lone parent and was receiving tax credits. Payment was due yesterday and they have said I cannot be re issued any payments until I have given them my figures for tax year 06 - 07.

I have been so very busy trying to keep our heads above water that I got behind with all my book-keeping. As we speak I am trawling through this long process to come up with the figures but I am in a panic as to how long it would take for them to start paying again.

All my bills etc are due soon and for the first time this year no work at all this week. .

Any help/feedback really appreciated.

Thanks

Dido

It normally takes a week to 10 days to restore the claim providing you respond by the date on the Statement of Account they will have sent to you. If you don't give them the information on time you will have to make a completely new claim and they will ask you to repay every provisional payment you received from April 2007 up until the date your payments stopped.

Current policy is that Inland Revenue Enquiry Centres are NOT allowed to give out hardship payments during that 7 to 10 day period.

They didnt send a form???? There was just a piece of paper with a checklist and I assumed that as nothing had changed my claim would stay as it was.

They have stopped my payments thats the question I was asking. I have give them my figures and they have said to wait for a renewal through the post. Will this take ages? Are they renowned for cocking things up?

I have a bill and mortgage to pay and I dont want them to delay it for ages.

The same thing happened to me 3 years ago. It took about 6 weeks to get reinstated, and as far as I can remember I lost around 3 weeks payments completely.

It's horrible when it happens, especially when you know that if you'd just read that bit of paper properly, you could have prevented it.

I hope it doesn't take as long for you. Good luck.

Oh hell. Six weeks???? Is there any way at all I can get them to speed it back up considering the fact that my circumstances have not changed??? As I said in the first post no work this weekend and dont get any maintenance for the kids. Cant claim benefits or a hardship payment.

What the heck am I gonna do???

    Oh dear!?!?!

  • Not sure how you can speed things up except ring them and try.
Being self employed many more things are our responsibility, such as getting our accounts done on time to keep the revenue happy, paying our own tax on time to keep the revenue happy.
Tax credits are a bonus for us now, some years back the self employed could not claim anything. Tax credits are good but we do have to keep our end of the bargain by submitting figures by July 31st, they told us often enough by letter and on TV ads. If nothing changed why could'nt you find the time to ring them and say that?
  • The form you should have filled in would have been sent back around April time and had to be in by 31 July and reminders will have been sent.

I was late with mine due to a change of circumstances but sent it out at the beginning of August. I then got a letter to say payments would be stopped and I was due them money for payments made between April and July so I phoned them then to make sure they had the new figures, this was probably mid August.

They took my figures over the phone and re-instated my claim and the change of circumstances and I was paid August and September together on 12 September.

If that was the case now I would be another statistic claiming income support as my wages alone are not enough to live on bringing up two children single handedly.

The letter I did get was just a checklist so I think I got a bit confused that you only had to inform if there was a change of circumstances, I do not watch TV, ever!!!.

Working and looking after two children is damn hard and I got that far behind that I could not give them any figures.

I was asking for help so thanks for the telling off lol:D .

    Edilass your a star thanks!
