I have a question about a family member who had a power of attorney on a relative who has now died, we believe that a bank account was closed PRIOR to the death of the relative, how can we find this out? the relative died more than a year ago and we have discovered since the relative died intestate and we obtained probate to get the probate value of the estate that there are many discrepancies in the accounting of our relative during her life, she was in care home for last 3 years of her life. We just want to know who to approach and where to begin. thanks Laptopdunce

Have you asked the attorney about this account?0

If you are administrator of the estate you should ask the bank the closed account was with for details .
Technically , as you are only in charge of the deceased's affairs AFTER death they would be within their rights to fob you off with a ' no account at time of death' line, but if you stress you suspect fraud they may play ball and give you a look at the account transactions.0 -
Agree with simply asking the bank for copies of the account statements. There are other perfectly normal reasons for an executor needing details from closed bank accounts - for example to determine what if any gifts were made in the previous 7 years.0
