another zero feedback question

a quick search is only coming up with results from 2005 !

so, I get that everyone is a newbie at first, not a problem, but I'm sure you used to be able to see whether they had a confirmed paypal account or not.

my buyer, £35 baby item, joined Ebay on the same date they purchased, no feedback and want it sent to Argos to collect. Is this too many negatives to send it or am I just being paranoid ! many thanks

You do not need a confirmed paypal account, just check your transaction to make sure it says 'OK to send'. The sticky postage thread explains it all.

It's not a high value item or a popular one for scams (such as a mobile phone or other electronic item). It's something that someone is likely to only buy if they actually want it.

They saw something they liked and joined to buy it, it seems.

If they've paid then they're not messing you around.

Nothing wrong with wanting it to go with Argos. Maybe they think it'll be easier. No risk of them not being in or not being able to answer the door. They can just pick it up when they have time. Not like they're trying to scam by saying INR because you won't know if it has been posted as there will be a record of it being at Argos and tracking if you do send tracked.

Obviously they have no feedback, they just joined.

If Paypal says OK to send then send. Nothing sounds dodgy about it at all.
  • Sounds like a pretty straight up sale to me.

At any rate, baby items are an unlikely place for scams. If you were selling a £1000 Macbook I'd be more worried.

My suspicion is you'll be fine.

Actually, baby items like pushchairs are a highly scammed item, second only to electricals. However, with full tracking to Argos this does not sound like an issue in this case.

Electronics are very easy to get rid of. You can sell them on numerous sites or get cash at a number of shops. Most will be easy enough to post. Plus for the most part they'd be easy to stock. Obviously there are people who also want but can't afford the latest tech so scam to get it.

The same can't be said for baby items though. No shops. There's a lot that would be awkward to post and to stock. If it's scammed just to get money then it's most likely useless if they can't sell it on.

I know there's a lot that has value to it and some may scam for items they'll use themselves rather than sell on, but it's surprising that it's so high up on the list considering.

Disagree. Baby stuff is very easy to sell at car boot sales. Get a pram for free on Ebay and then make a few quid at a car boot. Also you have the added advantage of thinking no-one could possibly scam you selling baby things.

On many of the Facebook selling sites I belong to prams account for a great deal of the sales. There is more than one person on there as recent as this week with multiple items for sale with no real explanation as to why they have a lot of unwanted buggies and strollers for sale. The scammy bit is that most will only meet up to sell, not allow collection from their home.

No guarantee it'll sell, plus people try and knock you down at carboots.

If you got a choice between a £200 console and a £200 pushchair I'd say you're best off with the console. Got far more chance of getting closer to it's value.

While some people take loads of money to carboots, most will probably offer a tenner at most for the pushchair regardless of its value. Not to mention cost of the carboot and hassle of packing the car and actually going there and standing there hours.

If all you've got is that one pushchair you'd look a bit stupid standing there only selling that.

Whereas you could pop down a shop and should easily get £100+ for the console.

Sure, if you don't care about what you get and have numerous items you can do a carboot and sell for just a few quid, but you could sell the console quickly for a few quid too that way and you could still get more very quickly elsewhere.

Compared to some other items, you've probably got as much chance of selling that at a carboot as anything else. People go to carboots for allsorts and it's sometimes surprising what sells and what doesn't.

As far as my local carboots go, and it does vary between areas, DVDs sell very well. Baby/young kids toys go for very little, assuming they sell at all. For the rest, I'd expect very low offers and to not sell it all (although can't say for certain how well they'd actually do as never tried selling them personally). There's certainly better items to try and sell.

Either way, you've still got less options.

Out of interest I decided to check a few selling groups local to me. Found a grand total of 2 pushchairs. One at £200, one at £15. No interest from anyone so far by the looks of it, but both are very recent.

Mostly seems to be furniture and clothes with odd games/dvds/electronics, although no idea how much of that has or is likely to sell. There are some kids clothes and some toys, but wouldn't say baby items are popular.

Maybe there are other groups where they are more popular, maybe not. I don't know. Seemingly not as popular as elsewhere though.

Pushchairs and buggies are very very popular locally to me, there are even dedicated selling sites just for them. Consoles are becoming less and less popular, although there are still a couple of big buyers for vintage consoles and games.
