What can be done to reduce food waste?

Many I know think that not having a kitchen full of food (most of which they'll throw away) signifies that they're "poor" and so won't stop spending on it, regardless of affordability. And they're not rich people either. Maybe it's a fear of being without so they'd rather spend £100+ a week on food for two people than have an empty fridge.
By the end of the week, all we have left in our fridge is about half a carton of fruit juice, margarine, milk, a few bits of leftover veg, a few tablespoons of plain yoghurt and maybe a 1/4 punnet of grapes.
Teaching people what they can freeze is also something that we need to get better at.
Grated cheese, leftover meal portions, milk, chopped vegetables, soft fruits, bread, pastries, pies... people are scared to freeze things because they don't know how to defrost them.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Just watched it and agree far too much food is binned unnecessarily. I have virtually zero food waste if I possibly can and to me I remember my late Mum saying 'Putting food into the bin is feeding the devil ':):) and being a war time child we were taught
'Good men died to get that food to your plate lassie ,don't disrespect their memory'
So nothing was ever wasted ,even if you wern't keen on it you ate it. I have never ever left anything on my plate,if I'm not that hungry I dish up less, which as you get older and less mobile is true as your appetite does diminish a bit.
I am all for reducing food waste and filling our green and pleasant land with thrown away food resources0 -
Our food waste is limited to tatty peelings, carrot peelings, leaves on cauliflower, and pineapple husks. Throwing food always is like burning fivers. Not inn BoP house!0

No waste in this house because every meal is planned out and gets eaten!{Signature removed by Forum Team}0
