Conservatory deposit

HELP!! We paid a deposit over the phone of £660 for a conservatory on 29th July 2016. We feel that we were slightly pressured in to doing this as we had to get permission from our housing association before putting up a conservatory. We were told that the contract would be subject to us getting permission within 3 months of the date of order or we could get out deposit back but if we signed (online) and paid a deposit that day we would be able to take advantage of the 20% discount which was only available to certain people and that it would end at the close of business on 29/7/16. We have since changed our mind about this having taken time to sit back and think about how we felt pressured. Does the statutory cooling off period of 14 days apply to us cancelling and getting our money back. If so we only have until 12.8.16 to do this

I presume they had someone come round to measure up and give you a quote?

Have you not been given a copy of their T&C's? Those should detail any cancellation rights.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Unless you went to their showroom to view the conservatory you have 14 days to cancel yes.

So where and how did you come across the conservatory.
  • No one came to the house to measure up and we did not visit their showroom as its a two hour drive away from us. This was done online and over the phone with us giving the preliminary measurements in order to get a quotation and then once we were to get permission for the conservatory we would give them the exact measurements. Am waiting for Citizens advice to call me back but they seem to take forever and the 14 days will soon be up. Terms and conditions on their website mentions nothing about cancellation rights within a cooling off period

Send them an email cancelling the contract as per the consumer rights regulations now and follow it up with snail mail just to be sure.

You do have the right as it's a distance sale but can you provide a link to the companies website and it will be checked.
