Name of mortgage - post divorce

Hi Everyone,
Not sure where to post this.
I separated from my ex in 2009 and divorced in 2012 but we had a joint mortgage. Is there anyway of getting my name off the mortgage deed/papers at all? I also declared bankruptcy in Feb 2013 if that matters. I make no contributions to the house.
Thanks

Can your ex afford the mortgage on their own? Does the bank agree?0

Hi ViolaLass,
Well she has been on her own for the last 7 years. I have not approached the banks yet0 -
Yes there us. Contact your mortgage people. There of course is a fee and you have both to be in agreement. Maybe do the ground work 1st before approaching your ex. I'm in similar situation where my ex left 3 years ago but pay mortgage in lieu of maintenance. Best of luck!0

Thanks; will do.0

If the bank don't agree that your ex can afford the mortgage on her own (even though she's been paying it on her own) and your ex won't sell and move, then you may need to consider going to a solicitor to force a sale.0

Was there any equity in the property at the point of bankruptcy? Was your ownership of the property taken into account in the bankruptcy proceedings? Have you taken advice (eg from a solicitor or possibly debt advisor) about the situation? What do you want to achieve from being removed from the mortgage?0

Oh gosh, so many questions. The main reason is that I got my credit report and it showed 2 news CCJs against my name relating to service charge debts at the property. I have chased up the ex and she says it has been paid (separate issue) so I cant afford stuff like that happening when I am trying to get my life in order and have had no financial issues for the last 3 years.
The other issue is that it is still an interest only mortgage and I fear there is no value in the property and I don't want to get roped into anything to do with it. I am also trying to get a place with my new partner and this might be an issue. She lives there with our son which is why O am trying to avoid any negative scenario.

Those CCJs will presumably also appear on your ex's credit history, which won't help.0

Then your options are very limited. Your ex can simply bid her time. Until your son is 18 or has left full time education. The status quo will be unchanged.0 -
Hi Viola,
Yes I assume it would be on hers too but I am obviously concerned the impact on my financial future.
I have spoken to her and she is happy to agree for my name to come off. I just hope the Lender agrees. Is there anything I should be aware of or that can help my request to them?
Thanks0
