O/S Daily Monday 8th August 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, bright blue sky with very light cloud sun trying poke through, air a bit cooler than yesterday but still very breezy. Load of washing ready to go out on the line, will do that shortly.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.
Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, HG green beans, peas, yorkshires and gravy - all eaten and enjoyed, the lamb was delicious and as it was such a large piece there's LO's in the fridge, also other LO's so that will become another meal - maybe tomorrow or Wednesday night. Dinner tonight will be an either an easy pasta in creamy tomato sauce with a side portion of breaded chicken or fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - we'll have one of those choices tonight, then probably swap tomorrow nights' meal for using up the LO's from the roast, I'll just need to do some more potatoes, I'll need to buy some more potatoes this week - as I didn't buy such a big bag when I did the shopping, as I'd got some left, and went to use up the oldest first and some of them were bad in the middle, but looked perfectly ok on the outside.
We were reasonably productive over the weekend, we got jobs done at the caravan, and also got the shed re-felted, and the menfolk re-built the border of the raised bed with some sleepers we were offered by a neighbour a few weeks back, so we're pleased we've managed to catch up with outstanding household jobs that needed doing, DH has said that next weekend we should be able to get the remaining jobs done in DS1's bedroom then that should be nearly finished. We do have some more time away in the caravan booked, from the Thursday of the Bank holiday weekend, and then a long weekend in September so things to look forward to now there's not so many outstanding jobs at home.
Back to work today for me, at the moment we have members of staff off sick, so that always presents us with a challenge, 1 will be off for months, as she had an accident and is going to take a while to heal, the other now on 2nd week of 2 week sick note, that obviously could turn in to longer, suspecting it probably will. We'll see what today brings, last Monday was manic.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread nmlc.
What an awful day we had yesterday, started badly and got so much worse. Now the rain has stopped though the high winds are still swirling round outside.
Yesterday became a sort of non-day, a bit like days past when there was no-where to go or nothing to do. I was 'forced' into tackling some tidying up of a glory hole in the utility room. Upside was I found a packet of my favourite marshmallows in the mess...downside was I ate them all! Felt so bad the rest of the day.
Today will be more of the same and my week is packed so I need to be smart about it. The house has to be presentable for my visitors, it's never a mess but there's stuff on the very wide window ledges which shouldn't be there. Just annoying that it's not all put away immediately.
I hope everyone has a good Monday. Especially thinking of the poorlies in our families.0 -
Good morning, thank you nmic for starting us off
Yesterday was a reasonably quiet day, although we did have to go out to buy a new house phone because the old one seemed to have given up. It is very rarely used but we need one that works for the occasional call.
Today, Himself wants to tackle a creeper which has grown over the fence at the bottom of the garden, it is like a virginia creeper. The trouble is it grows so much and then beds inself into the ground so we have shoots coming up all over the place. The weather looks as though it will be nice again.
I want to strip our bed and get the linen washed. He is still in bed at the moment so I will have to be patient. He is sleeping so much better so I don't want anything to disturb him.
Csarina I hope DH is a little better today. It is a little serious though when they have to give him morphine for the pain.
Lainey, thinking of your Mum today, I so hope you will have answers soon.
Have a good day all and stay safe

Good Morning chums and <<hugs >> for those who are not feeling so good or the folk who are taking care of them.
Today the sun is up and blazing away so looks like its going to be a half decent day .I have book club first thing this morning which I shall go to as my beautiful DGS Ben is back home for a month and he will keep order indoors until I get there mid-morning.Holiday is getting closer now and organised chaos will rain over the nxt few days of getting DDs boys all sorted with what they want to take with them and making sure they all have enough clean clothes packed.Because both her and her OH will be working until Thursday evening I shll be making sure that each boy has sorted out what he want to take with him and they all have a small list of essentials its their job to find for the holiday
Getting all seven of us plus the dog and hamster to Southampton by lunchtime on Friday for the ferry is like a military maneuver.Every year I think something will go wrong or be forgotten but so far we have done it by the skin of our teeth:):) Once on the ferry I then relax and figure whats been forgotten can stay forgotten for two weeks at least
Right time for a strong cup of coffee and a bit of organising myself:)
Have a good day everyone

Morning all,
looks like a nice day here again what a lovely weekend it was, off to work for me today and its an event day so will be busy I think its science experiments and such today, only two weeks to go until out holiday which I am so looking forward to !
Ive got some chicken out for dinner tonight not sure what to do with it yet but I will I think do some garlic roasties to go with it, DD off today so she could do dinner.
I need to do a wash tonight and have a tidy round, practically no housework was done over the weekendas we were out and about so it needs a bit of attention.
Lainey hope you get some answers today xx
Hilstep hope you are ok xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc.
Dry and bright here, wind has died down a lot.
Work todaybut will just concentrate on 2 o'clock and going home, doesn't feel right to wish my days away like that mind.
Thanks for all the well wishes for Mum, she was very quiet yesterday and admitted how worried & anxious she is so really hope we get answers soon, like she said at least then she knows what is coming, it's the unknown that is scarier?
We went out to the nursery yesterday and I found a lovely white clematis to plant next to the shed, didn't manage to get any money off but picked a good specimen, some of them certainly looked like they had spent all summer in the pot.
DB and family all come to pick Mum up so tea and cake in the garden, Rosie dog is a bit stiff and sore this morning as she kept bringing her ball to my nephew to throw, bless her.
Anyways, better get going, thinking of you and your OH Csarina, take care folks x0 -
Morning all, it looks to be a bright day here.
My cold came back with a vengeance Abd I was coughing fit to beat the band in bed so I came downstairs and furtled about on the net for a while. Then managed a couple of hours sleep sitting up. I need to get going really, must have a shower and stagger off. I'd take a couple of days off but that's not a possibility - at least my desk drawer is stuffed with cold remedies. I am lucky to have my own desk, many don't and have to hotdesk it. The standard is 3 to a desk, you can imagine how that works out! Fine in the holiday period but less so at other times. I have always said that anyone can use my space if I'm not around but if I am out and about and come in later, I feel awful evicting interlopers. They slink off, outwardly polite but you can tell that there is an element of inner muttering.
Love to our poorly family members, I really must gird my loins, I have one very important thing to do this afternoon and the rest is just stuff.
Hope everyone's day us as good as possible.
JackieO I do envy you, sounds such fun! Does the hammy enjoy travelling do you think?I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning folks and thanks for starting NMLC. It's still quite blowy here but not quite as severely as yesterday. We escaped any rain until evening so that was a bonus at least!
The backlog of jobs was finally caught up on yesterday! Food shopping got done in the morning and the freezers defrosted and sorted out in the afternoon. I made a chicken curry for late tea and there's enough left to warm up today.
Mr TA has a busy morning ahead! The car is booked in for MOT (fingers crossed!) then he is back into town for his fortnightly blood tests for Liverpool. After that he is going for a haircut. Then home to await the dreaded phone call from the garage - either saying it's ready or there is a list of jobs to be done!!
I am having a job-free day (other than pegging the washing out) as today I am being a lady who lunches! My friend and I are meeting an old friend and work colleague (in a previous life!) She is far from well and suffers from an awful lot of ailments so, from experience, I know this will be the sole topic of her conversation! She was such a bit of fun when we were working too, before ill health clobbered her. It's sad. My other friend hasn't seen her for seven years so I have warned her she will get a shock.
I hope today brings better news for LAINEY and CSARINA. Thinking of you both. It's an added worry Csarina when you know your DH should be getting better care than he is from the hospital. Mr TA has had so many hospital visits and stays over the last three years and we cannot fault his care at any of the three hospitals involved. Be it our local hospital, St James in Leeds or the Royal Liverpool. The doctors and staff at all of them have been wonderful and I can't praise them highly enough.
Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where needed, especially the poorlies. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's bright and sunny here but very windy. I am up and dressed this morning as I have my therapy session at 10am. I'm very nervous but I am sure it will be fine. I then have to get my photo taken for my new bus pass so I will try to remember to take a hairbrush with me.
I have a load of chicken breast fillets to cook off this afternoon and I will be making a curry amongst other things. My willing helper DD13 has the orthodontist so she won't be around to give a hand.
We had a good clean and tidy up yesterday so not a lot needs doing today.
Sending get well soon vibes to ancientofdays, hope your cold gets better quickly x
Get well soon also also to csarinas DH and LaineyT's mum x
Well it's clouded over a lot since I started typing, I hope it doesn't rain. It certainly feels a lot cooler in the night time too, I didn't have my fan on last night for the first time in ages.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning :hello:
Four doors have been hung, the fifth one is still leaning up against the wall in the hall. Why do all except one? I actually wanted this one done first, it's for the lounge and that door opens the wrong way – it feels like it cuts the end of the room off when it's left open. So I've been looking forward to it being done but will have to put up with it for a little while longer.
Is there a weed epidemic this year? We always have loads but this year I can't keep up with them. I've been spending a lot of time pulling them out, no doubt they'll be everywhere again in about a week
I've done a large online shop, it's coming tomorrow. I can alter it til 5pm today, I have a few bits to add so I'll do that in a mo. Then I need to rearrange a bit so everything will fit, lol. I've picked quite a few cucumbers and the tomatoes are finally ripening so I'll be spending quite a bit of time in the greenhouses from now on. I always have good intentions to keep it tidy and chop the useless bits of plants off and pull them out as soon as they're finished, but I end up leaving it all until the last tomato has been picked. Then I stare at the dead plants and weeds while moaning at myself for leaving it
I have lots of scribbled notes lying about, I'll go through them today and write a proper To Do list, hopefully I'll have time to make a start on a couple of jobs later this afternoon.

Morning all
AOD, I hope you feel better soon, Lainey & Csarina I hope you both get some good news soon.
Peace reigns here, DD collected her dogs yesterday, after they'd gone I washed my blankets that they had slept on and steam cleaned the floor.
I got an early birthday present yesterday from hubby, he bought me a 10inch (no sniggering now) Kindle Fire. He has one and felt guilty that I didn't so he treated me to one. I've checked it all works but I'm not using it until the case arrives on Wednesday.
More decorating today so I hope the weather doesn't get too hot.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0
