Screens with HDMI for car?

I've recently spent a day wiring up a leisure battery in my boot in order to power various bits even while the engine isnt running. I had a master plan to wire up a pair of screens on the headrests for the kids in the back, butr have run into some issues.
The screens are from an in-car DVD system, but the DVD player just skips and jumps making anything unwatchable. However, the screens alo have RCA inputs so I'd planned to use that from Kodi on a Raspberry Pi. This was also thwarted when it turns out that an HDMI-RCA converter doesn't really work.
Any suggestions of how I might get things working using what I already have are appreciated, but what I'm really resigned to is getting a pair of screens which just have HDMI inputs to start with. So that's what I'm mostly asking - suggestions of screens/sets I might be able to use.
Found this, but would like cheaper, really.
Anyone got any ideas?

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

My Raspberry Pi has phono (RCA) output for composite video and 3.5mm jack for audio, does not yours? With suitable cable it should be easy to link up.0

You have two options:
Whip the screens out their casing and wire them up with an HDMI LCD controller board. Then make another casing for them (if they don't fit in with the original casing).
Or you can build another system as it's unlikely those DVD screens will be putting out HD quality displays
A bonus option is to get a couple of 10" tablets instead to use and a mobile 3G/wifi unit to go. Setup a USB hub to the front from the spare battery and a solar trickle charger to keep the battery good.
I;ve seen it done in quite a few cars and it's pretty straightforward.0 -

When I do that the picture is black and white and very fuzzy...You have two options:

Could I do this with a laptop LCD?Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Only if you get a screen driver board for the laptop screen. They can cost more than a new screen though.
Black and fuzzy = poor cable or connection or not chosen the correct input in the settings. Had a similar issue when we first bought a WII and connected it using the phono style leads.
Select the correct input and it was all OK.
Possibly a resolution issue alsom change the screen resolution.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I bought a similar one for a project here , I have one of those and a sumvision micro 4 media player sat on my desk , and play my music collection from my nas via it vi a pair of amplified speakers , the screen is my display for the menu
the r/c on the unit was flimsy and interfered with the remote on the sumvision , so the "board" was removed
mine has no speakers , the vents a the back were for "show".
the monitor is ok , not the best quality picture , but acceptableSave a Rachael
