Mt wife has a Moto E and likes taking a lot of Pics with it. I used to simply connect it to my pc via usb, open the folder and drag and drop the pics onto my pc. Since she updated to Android 6 I have been unable to do this. Now when I connect the phone to the PC it opens up and says 'this folder is empty'. There is a 32gb sd card in the phone and I have tried replacing with another but the result is the same

With Marshmallow (Android v6) simply connecting the phone to your pc and doing nothing else is charging mode.
To connect the phone for any other actions requires you to give permission via the pull down screen on the phone. Once you have done this then you will get access to all files on the phone.
As a last resort slot the micro sd card into a full size converter and plug it straight in to your pc.0 -
or use the inbuilt 'Google Photos.' on Moto E
just login to 'google photos' on the PC using her google log in
then download to PC0 -

Have you tried removing the card, and putting it into the PC?0 -

Yes, or, if your PC has a SD Card reader built in, you could use the adapter that came with the Micro SD Card.

Thank you all for your help - problem solved. Yes I had loaded them onto my PC using a usb adapter but it was a bit of a faff. Following Neil49's advice I now have it back to how it was before. Many thanksI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
