Re-wire - south east

Options
Hi All, I have been given a quote to carry out a full re-wire on a property I am purchasing.

Its a 3 bedroom property in West Sussex.

Lounge
Dining Room
Kitchen
Conservatory (reasonably large)
+ 3 pretty average sized bedroom (1 large, 1 medium, 1 small)

To carry out the re-wire, pretty basic spec w' new CU - £4500 + VAT.

I will of course seek further quotes, but does that seem quite high to anyone else?

It depends entirely on what has been specified. How many sockets per room? Number of FSUs? Inset lights? etc etc.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • We're just talking "average" everything really Phill99 - 3-4 sockets in the larger rooms (lounge and bedroom 1) 2 sockets in smaller rooms (dining room, bedroom 2/3) 4 in Kitchen, cooker/hob points , no inset lights, but some wall lights in the lounge. Couple of outdoor lights currently attached to rear. 1 outside socket. To me it looks like a very ordinary set up, nothing particularly elaborate.

He has given a quote for a "basic" spec - i.e. updating everything that is currently there with a new consumer unit).

Googling around, I've seen a lot of average 3 beds recently quoted for re-wires anything between 2.5-3.5k - but this guys basic spec was £4.5k with (presumably) any bells and whistles - network cabling etc - costing more still.

It seemed on the high side to me but just looking for opinions.

Then you jeed to get other quotes as a comparison. Then you will see whether he is OTT or n the money.

  • Although you say three bedroom conservatory and outside make that nearly five equivalent bedrooms, You don’t mention substrate i.e. concrete, plasterboard, flooring or how many two way, who supplying wall lights outside light or type , there switching etc Get other prices and compare btw there are insufficient sockets in kitchen and bedrooms. It would of course be cheaper to have none vat registered of which there plenty out there...
