Sorry if this sounds silly but my house has a fireplace that has been converted to use a gas fire.
The last owner said that the gas fire was condemned during a service and they have removed the fire and capped the gas pipe.
I have been looking for a gas fire to fill the hole but can't find anything the same size.
The dimensions of the hole are
H- 840mm
W - 690mm
D - 400mm
Is there anywhere I can get a fire in these dimensions? Or would I have to have the hole adapted

Before you start looking at fires to install, I would seriously suggest getting a Gas safe registered chimney sweep out to check and clean the flue, before you buy anything.
It may not have been the fire itself at fault, which caused the fire being condemned. It could be the flue itself, if this is the case, it will need lining, which will cost around £400, then your fire and installation on top. This may also restrict what type of fire you can have, depending on what size liner you buy.
The opening is big. If you buy from a good, reputable fireplace showroom, they will be able to alter the sizes for the fire chosen. Getting an installer to do this for you, if you buy off the internet will be risky, they won't want to take on the added work, if they are not getting the margin off the fire as well. But don't expect the same price o the fire as you may find on the net, they have more overheads to pay for than a man in an office keying in orders to suppliers all day.0
