Score rebuilding

Options
I have not one, but two CCJ's courtesy of NPower and their gross incompetence. Although they are now 15 months old I am still in the midst of the dispute over them, currently with the Ombudsman prior to going to Court to request them to be set aside.

At the time of the CCJ's I didn't have any credit at all other than a long-standing 2.5 overdraft with Halifax with is still standing and in the process of being cleared.

I am a homeowner with a secured loan on my property (very low loan to value) and I am self-employed with a gross income of 67K. My financial adviser suggested that I attempt to get credit builder cards to assist my ascension back up the ladder.

Since March with year I have managed to acquire an Aqua credit card, initial limit £600 and increase after 3 month to £1350. In addition, I have a Think Money (Capital One) card with a limit of £200.

With the Aqua I spent around 60% of the limit for the 3 months and paid in full each month. I intend to do the same with TM and hope to eventually get back into the land of the creditworthy.

My Experian score is 816, where my CCJ's are NOT listed and with Equifax it is 213 and my CCJ's ARE listed.

Hope that gives hope to some. :j

  • You need to find lenders which only search Experian then!!!

Glad you've managed to get some new credit though, it will certainly help. Even if the CCJs stand, being 15+ months old you won't have too many problems obtaining average credit (sofas, windows etc!).

Have you tried your actual bank for a credit card? If they only search Experian you could get a very high limit if you current account conduct has been good, as they won't know about the CCJs and your income will look good.

And ignore the scores - 816 means nothing compared to 777 or 666. The only thing they are semi-useful for is looking at trends - clearly 800 is higher than 200, and you've already stated the reason for that: Your CCJs don't show at Experian... you don't need a score to see that! :)

Lenders use the Registry Trust to confirm matters such as CCJ's.
