MOT Failure help
Hi last year a month to this date roughly I bought a Suzuki Grand Vitara 2000
It had passed it's MOT before i bought it in September of last year, but that MOT was done by the seller. Anyway I took it in for its MOT 1 year on and it's failed on the points I've attached in the image.
My issue is how can a car corrode so much within 12 months to fail, do I have a right to contact the seller(a trader) and complain?
I'm still waiting to find out if the faults can be fixed, but the cost could out weight the car value, so if that does happen it's clearly not worth it.
Im pretty annoyed, or should I go get a 2nd MOT done first? Any advice would be grateful.

impossible to say from that, it could have been borderline pass last year - were there any advisories on last years mot? It could be that a bit of welding and painting would sort it, could be more costly than value of the car. What I would say is after 3months+ on a used car you have very little comeback. I bet the warrantee was 3 months (legal min) If you had an independent inspection you'd have more chance against them than the supplying dealer imo.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Has it got a separate chassis with the body bolted to it?0

My first car passed its 1sT MOT in my ownership, 12 months later the tester pushed a scewdriver through the floor in a number of places.
That car was 18 years old and its what happens.
Next time you buy an old car have an MOT done yourself before purchasing.
Full MOT history is also available online.0 -
Check out the MOT history on line to see if there were any mention of it previously.

Grand Vitaras rust, especially if used around mud or salt without being washed underneath.
Usual problem areas
Boot floor
Sills
Front shock turrets.
The Grand Vitara has a separate chassis until about 2006 IIRC, but the body mounts are at the ends of the sills, and the seatbelts bolt to the sill in the middle.
Get quotes for welding it up, usually in the £500 range though for both sills, the inner sill is available, the outer sill comes as the whole rear panel, so is usually fabricated or cut off another vehicle.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I'm going to get all sortf of cr4p for this, but i've said it before and i'll no doubt say it again......
Some less than honest car dealers have no interest in doing a legit MOT on a vehicle they're about to sell, they know full well that any issue won't be noticed until well beyond any sort of come back is possible.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I used to work at a station that would get you a test for £60, £80 if really bad and as much as £120 if major issues and you wasn't a regular!
Granted this particular garage went to the extreme but you seem to know as well as I do that there are garages out there that will bend some rules for some extra dollar.
And your right, customers don't know until it's too late... Usually next mot or next service in which case you often tell them items wear and you can't help, most disappear at this point.
So anybody that doesn't believe what your saying would be very niaive.0 -
I think a lot of people are ignoring the elephant in the room.
A lot of the people getting bent MOTs are just people who own a car and can't be bothered to maintain it properly.
They then trade it in with a few years bent MOTs behind it.
Unless these cars become rusty when in the hands of a trader for a couple of weeks?
I have said it before and will repeat it.
There are far more dodgy owners than dodgy traders.
That is not excusing dishonest traders.0
