Santander download transactions in XLS not working?

The option to download in XLS format isn't working for me today. Is it just me? Other formats seem OK. I have used XLS for a few years and last downloaded in June using same unchanged computer.

I don't do it so I can't answer directly, but there's a good chance they will be doing some sort of maintenance or upgrade work today so if you don't get any more replies I'd try again on Monday and see whether it's working again then.0

It is an encoding problem. Looks like they have changed the file's encoding properties, it is not really an xls file but html/xml.0

Just tried it - XLS is indeed now htm/xml but there is still a CSV selection which will open in any spreadsheet0

Unfortunately the CSV formatting (spacing) would require greater effort to adjust/cleanup to match my existing data. Importing the so called 'xls' is easier even though it requires additional steps to before where it would just open in Excel. Shame they messed it up.0 -
well the one i linked in my last post i just double click on it and its open in excel, or am i on the wrong track from you guys?0

Hi
I had the same issue ... and found the following answer, which worked for me, via Google:
"When the file shows at the bottom of your screen, please right click into Properties & under security it will say security comes from a different computer do you want to unblock after ticking yes, the document should then be viewable in the correct format.
If the file is not showing at the bottom of the screen, you may be required to save it to your computer and when you can see the file to right, click on the icon and select properties and proceed as above."

This is a good solution. I was opening with browser or Word and then copying into Excel, this is better.0 -
I have been mailing Santander help desk for several weeks to try to find a solution to getting an .xls file that will import into Numbers on Mac. Trying the .xls approach brings spanish coding into the file. I have also tried exporting to Excel on a Windows laptop and find that one cell contains 6 pieces of information that I would really want in a separate cell.
The Help Desk have now recommended that I revert to Quicken for Mac (which is now only available in the US!)
I think it is time to Switch.0
