A friend who's a wonderful cook gave my and my husband a book for our engagement called something like '25 authentic indian curries', which she said was the best recipe book in the world ever.
We've doggedly cooked our way through 5 curries now, and they all come out tasting awful and clearly not being right (much too liquid, much too dry, etc). The worst thing is that we don't think we can admit this about an engagement present, so we keep pretending that it's working for us.0 -
I once made 2 lemon cheesecake from delia's cake book and I didnt now that my husband had put salt in the jar that I usually store the castor sugar, one of the cheesecakes was for a leaving do at work so thank goodness we tasted the other one first as it was disgusting.0

Not sure if this has been posted before, but when we got our first flat a few years back, I decided to make OH a delia rice pudding recipe- was a disaster. Tried again and the same (I am a scientist so can be a bit anal over recipes) Even got amazing cook mum to try and it went wrong for her0

Pea pod soup made from a farmhouse cookery book. Thought I was being really good not wasting the pods. Disgusting. One of the few times in 32years of married life I have thrown a pan of food down the sink. We all kept a straight face when trying it to see what the others thought, then burst out laughing at how horrible it was. Truly inedible.0

I didn't get on with the weetabix cake either I don't know what i did wrong
I also can't make scones or flapjacks. I *know* they are supposed to be easy but I've tried so many different receipes and it's always a screw-up. Honestly - they'd make great tiles :rotfl::staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Ampersand.. I tried 4 different carrot cake recipes before I found an edible one.. and that took an extra half hour to cook.. HERE IT is the only one that worked for me..
A few years ago my dear mil took to baking for us! She arrived one day with a carrot cake as she new I loved it. The cake was like a house brick so I put it on the bird table and the last I saw of it a large chunk was being dragged by the resident garden mouse up the steps to his hole. I never saw the mouse again....
My worst cooking disaster was actually quite recent..I got some woopsie salmon from mr s and thaught I would "create" something new. I tryed to make a sort of salmon sauce thing to go with spaggetti as we didnt have anything else. The result was a discusting pinkish grey coloured slime and it was the most discusting thing I have ever tasted. I am afraid its put me off fresh salmon for life:o :rotfl:JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Mrs Mehefin when we were newly weds (bleurgh years ago) decided to make some 'rock cakes' from one of those do-it-all recipe books. They were so tough they could be used as missiles against errant cats in the garden... funnily enough I only have to mention 'cat killers' these days to evoke fits of laughter.. They were quite tasty but the dental bills could have been horrendous!!!0

Really skint one day and only had the contents of the veggie box in so I thought I'd make a nice vegetable soup. With beetroot and kale being the main ingredients.
It turned out brown so when DH got home and sniffed at it suspiciously I told him it was Oxtail. It went down the sink in the end.
Oh and my pea & ham soup was repellant. When on holiday in Italy we enjoyed a pasta meal which had a slight chilli kick to it.We were given a pack of the spice mix to make it when we got home.I can't speak italian and so could'nt read the instructions but made the dish up as I remembered it.It made my eyes smart and my OH nearly choked when he came in and sampled it.
I had put the whole pack in as it was'nt very big.
It turned out there was enough spice for about 50 dishes in it I found out later. It's put us off for life.0
