Covenant - Sky Dish
Comments
-
I bought my house last winter and I have a no sky dish covenant. I simply laughed when the solicitor officially informed me and put one up on the day after completion. I am not aware of a single house on the whole estate that doesn't have one, some have been up for 20 plus years as well! The owners of the covenant (the developers from 25 years ago) are not interested (my solicitor wrote to them but they said they don't reply to legal requests!). I'm pretty sure it's from when satellite dishes were absolutely huge and bright white! I really wouldn't worry about it if I were you!0

If it was put in by the developer it is probably to ensure all the houses look neat while they are still trying so sell houses on the development.
Once they are all sold they have no benefit so even if they wanted to enforce it they might struggle.
My house has such a covenant, but not from the developers, but from the local authority. They wanted this New Town to be cable only. But the "municipal" cable service was turned off ages ago.
I put a dish up, but at the rear.0 -
This is fairly normal for certain areas.
I have a couple of rental properties, and my tenants are not allowed to put up satellite dishes as part of the tenancy agreement - it would really lower the tone of the area and they would stick out like a sore thumb. As Lily Rose says this can be common on rental properties too and I have also seen them on covenants for properties although this is fairly rare although certainly in conservation areas this the still the norm, not the exception,
I think your best bet would to look at broadband - if there is a covenant on your property that says no satellite dishes you need to respect it, what you neighbours do isn't your concern.0 -
Satellite dishes were monstrous great things back in the day.
Now they're more discreet mini dishes.0 -
Houses in historic "Conservation Areas" are often precluded from having satellite dishes. However, it doesn't sound like this is the reason for the OP's house having a ban.I have never personally known any house forbid a sky dish. (
As others have said, it should be possible to mount a dish elsewhere than on the house (I've even seen them placed in the garden with "camouflage" paint applied so that they blend in).
The other option is to get the channels required via another supplier like Virgin Media (if cable is available).
The OP might want to sound out the opinions of his potential new neighbours. They are the ones who might object.
That's irrelevant to the rules of any covenant, of course.Satellite dishes were monstrous great things back in the day.

Crack on. Ridiculous covenents that have never been enforced.0

Large landowner near me actively enforces the covenants , long list of things on their no list , satellite dishes , sheds , conservatories . They patrol several times a year and issue enforcements
I'm not allowed any kind of cabling down the outside of the front of mine , I'm also not allowed to change the colour of the front door , they repaint every house every 5 years
Again actively enforcedEx forum ambassador

But that's not enforcement. It's letter writing.0 -
