Motor Home Insurance (CDW) Query

I recently rented a motor home and instead of taking out the companies CDW waiver insurance (£20 per day) I opted for a policy for around £70 as per comments I'd read.
On the final day we managed to damage the vehicle with no 3rd party involved, I returned the vehicle and was expecting to get hit with the £1000 excess charge, however they've sent me an invoice for the damage which is around £340.
My question is what should I do, can I claim on the CDW policy or do I go back to the hire company and ask them to charge me a grand so I can claim it back? Or just pay the £340 and be done with it?

You have been caught out by the big catch in those third party excess protection policies.
Now you know why they are cheap!
Think you going to have to swallow this 3400 -
Oh well, many thanks, thought I'd check here first to make sure that was my only course.0

Am I missing something here?
The OP hasn't said what the excess is under his CDW policy. Assuming it's less than £340, can he not claim for £340 minus the excess?0 -
He has said.
See op - £1000
The third party ( waste of money) policy only pays out if you have to pay the £1000 in full0 -
I don't think I was not insinuating fraud, if I was to claim for the £340 on the policy, the hire company would have to charge me the £1000 would they not?
I wanted to make sure I was doing what was best (for me) and not paying the £340 if I did not need to but Quentin has told me to swallow it and that's what I had thought but just after a 2nd opinion.0 -
Are you sure you can only claim on the policy if you pay the full £1000 excess?.
When I took out independent car rental insurance they would pay out for any damage caused up to £50,000 and my policy only cost me £20 for a week!.0 -

The £1000 referred to was the hire company's excess was it not?
I recently hired a van and took out separate insurance to cover the hire company's £1500 excess. The excess under that policy was only £100 and I cannot see anything in the wording to suggest that it would only apply if I had to pay the £1500 in full.
Can you point me to a policy wording which does have that restriction; it seems to make no sense.0 -

Pretty sure Quentin is incorrect on this occasion. What IS the excess on the separate policy you took out?0 -
thanks for your questions, I've attached the what's covered and excess here:
