ETA: just noticed OP actually said they were doing >10mph. Stand down! My mistake. No need for pitchforks.
It was made perfectly clear in post #2, so...0 -
Am I correct in thinking that these should not ever be crossed for overtaking, regardless of how slow a road user in front might be going? If so it does seem to be a rule that is routinely broken. I have been behind bikes on 2-3 occasions recently in such a situation with someone behind me clearly upset at the delay.
How long have you been a driver OP?0 -

I wouldn't be harsh on the OP. I'd estimate that based on the scenario described, only a small percentage of the motoring population know both that you can cross solid white lines to overtake cyclists (and certain other slow moving traffc), but that you can only do so if the cyclist(s) are travelling at less than 10mph.0 -

It's pretty basic stuff, no?
I distinctly remember this on my driving lessons from 30 year ago.0 -

Well lets see what others say.0 -
Quite a lot of people don't seem to know, and will sit behind a bus at a bus stop rather than simply go around it if there are double white lines.
The same people don't know that you can drive on chevrons with broken white line edges, which is why lots of roads sport them down the middle, and it has curtailed overtaking.
However, to get at those of us who do know, "they" have started putting KEEP LEFT refuges alongside bus stops to force us to sit behind the 'bus for 5 minutes, because "they" think that it might be unsafe to go around it and we are too witless to simply look first and then try and not run over the passengers crossing in front of it. :mad:I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
