PIP: "Decision taking longer than normal"

I'm being reassessed for PIP. I recently received a letter saying that the decision was taking longer than normal. I'm terrified. I only claim PIP on the basis of neurological and mental illness so I'm not sure whether I count under the new rules at all. My PIP props up my household. I couldn't afford to lose it. The DWP gave me a phone call about my neurological illness, which I feel went well, but still I got this letter. What does it mean?

I'm not sure what new rules you mean, as far as I'm aware there aren't any for PIP.
It probably just means that the caseload is heavy in your area. Have you had a face to face interview? If not it's probably just that they have too few assessors and too many applications. If not it could mean that they're writing to your doctors for information.
There are loads of possible reasons. I think the letter was meant to reassure you, not worry you. There are often threads on here where people have been waiting for a while and haven't heard anything, which is worrying them.
Also, don't forget that what you read on the internet are the bad cases. Lots of people go through the process and get the correct award, but you don't hear about those.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Thanks, Ames. I'll hold out hope.0

I can't recall the exact wording but most people seem to receive a 'we're sorry this is taking longer than usual' letter, I did too. Mine took 7 weeks from assessment to decision, the 'we're sorry ...' letter arrived after two weeks (long before I'd expected a decision).
Try not to worry, waiting is the hardest bit0 -
I had my PIP assessment on 14 June. At the beginning of July I got the "sorry its taking so long" letter. I called on Friday and was told no decision has been made. Just a waiting game really. The DWP have all the information they need to make a decision.0
