battery postage issues

I'm easily confused and thought someone on here would understand the restrictions on batteries better than I do. I have a very old radio and it has a great big thumping battery in it that is wired in to the board inside the radio and then the back goes on the radio via a screw held back. I think it is definitely excluded from MyHermes as they seem to restrict all batteries (although I'm not entirely sure). However looking at the RM site it appears that as it is part of the radio it is allowed- or am I reading that incorrectly?

Just had a look at the battery and it is a 9V Zinc carbon battery. It is wired in via two terminals in the top of the battery, there isn't a battery compartment like there would be in a modern radio.

Well their website makes it all very very clear (NOT). Its mostly about lithium and then mentions wet batteries are OK. But some batteries need to be made a certain way with approval ???

    Wow...

I would tell them its not a battery but a capacitor which is inert when discharged as it is now. And only active when charged and totally safe.

But i doubt the person on the counter will know either.

Thank you forgotmyname. I think for the value of it (very little) I might as well just add it to the car boot box - not that I ever do car boots but I might do one at some point!

Hi Soolin,I see u do "millions" of posts on here and I presume "millions" of sales on ebay.I only do a few of both,ie posts and sales.

Anyway, just one word of warning, before u consign your radio into a boot sale.I was given a radio decades ago,it was big and heavy. Sat in a cupboard for years.

Saw one like it was going for about 200 quid on ebay,in worse condition then mine. Plonked it on ebay,10 days auction. After 9 1/2 days was going for about 100quid,was kicking myself for having the auction end at 3pm,rather than evening time. In the last 1/2 hour of the auction.......it wentup to 500 smackers :T

PS,are u sure the battery is hard wired that dosen't sound right ............?
