First Credit Card

Hello,
I've recently graduated from university and will be starting my first job soon. I have been advised by a number of people that it is useful to look at getting a credit card. However, I am not sure which ones I should be looking at.
There seem to be so many aimed at different things e.g. balance transfers, travel money etc. Personally, I'd quite like to get something back from my credit card, such as Avios miles or airline miles, but the main thing is to find a suitable credit card.
Any advice and/or suggestions would be gratefully received.
