Need advice about husbands car

Hi I hope someone can help me. I sadly lost my husband in April, the car is registered in his name. The insurance is in his name and mine but I'm a learner driver, I realise the insurance is not valid now but the car is not being used so I'm not too worried about that at present. I got the letter through this morning in his name about the tax being due at the end of the month. I know that tax doesn't go to the next owner but my questions are.... Do I have to transfer the car into my name? Can I change the tax into my name without having to pay for it twice? Is there anything else I need to know? I am learning to drive and intend to keep the car after I pass my test but I can't afford to be wasting money as I am pretty much skint now. Yes I also realise I need to inform them of his death but I'm in no rush to do that either.

Where is the car currently kept ? if it is on the road then it needs to be taxed and insured0

Why can't you transfer in to your name and declare sorn at same time then tax on first of Sep0
-
It is in the parking bays next to the road and I know the dvla will clamp it there if it's not taxed as they did to one of my neighbours0

I don't really want to add an extra keeper to it and it's the last thing left in his name as well0

If the DVLA can clamp it then it needs to be insured0

If he's deceased then DVLA need to be informed at some point. If tax runs out at the end of the month, just change the registered keeper online on the 1/9 and tax it in your name at same time. You can't keep it in his name forever more0

I second that. They were very helpful when I was dealing with my late father's estate. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0
