No, I think you are probably suffering from pessimism bias.

PS I don't use Apple Pay as I don't have an iPhone but prefer the £500 saving on the phone to the risk of losing a few quid on cashback.

Possibly, although my TSB card definitely requests a PIN for more often than I would expect. You have to enter a PIN when it requests it or use another card, so I don't think this is anything down to my usage. But I am seeing 1 in 3 where it will decline to Contactless and request a PIN. That is just how it is, my AMEX tends to be about 1 PIN request in 7.

I agree with you on the iPhone! I have Android Pay but find it unreliable, and too be quite honest its quicker paying by card, and never runs out of power. But that's another thread.

I though the limit for contactless payments was £30. Do Waitrose allow you to buy a single gift card with 4 separate contactless cards in a single transaction?

With Apple Pay there's no £30.00 limit. I've paid £60.00 odd with my iPhone in the past.

I've found that simply withdrawing the odd £10 from an ATM (which of course requires entering a PIN) every 2 weeks or so has correlated with my contactless transactions always going through without the need for entering a PIN (and hence no declined cashback)

When it is denied do you put the card into the machine and pay entering your pin?. If you don't and just use contactless all the time that may be the problem because you need to do a transaction using your pin every so often for security reasons.

Also i wouldn't switch the account because you will loose the 5% interest on £2000 and the 5% regular saver!

Regular saver is now 2% if its not already been opened before July

I only opened TSB accounts recently and have only had to give the pin number for the first transaction.

In future, I will take along both my single account card and the one from our joint account, so if one requires the pin, the other, possibly won't so will earn the cashback.

Most retailers have a £30 contactless limit but there are some (i.e. Waitrose, Nando's) where Apple Pay is only capped by the funds available in your account/credit limit.
