Hi guys, I could do with some advice.

Due to a new job and current rail engineering works on my usual commute I am living with my in laws during the week and travelling back to my OH on fridays for the weekend for the next three weeks.

I found out I had the Job and started the job with about three days notice, which meant the lovely big food shops I did on the 27th will be mostly untouched and won't diminish too much this month.

This means next month there will not be as much to buy so my shopping will be cheaper.

So I could go two ways with this, do I...

    1) Next month shop normally and put the money we save on the shopping towards Christmas/Debts/Bills/Savings

    or

    2) Use this as a chance to stock up on spirits or other things we very rarely buy, shop normally and remain in budget at the end of the month but no money is saved.

What do you guys think would be the best thing to do?

    ..........
A quick question, we are going to try a new recipe over the weekend and it calls for pecorino cheese but can't find it...can I use parmasan or grana padana instead? ............
Parmesan will be fine - hope recipe goes well :D
..... BUT DD is wanting to eat 'healthier and cleaner' and I could do with losing weight so am keen too. The quandry I have is that I know we will be buying a lot more fresh salad stuff and fruit. This I Know will be cheaper in Lidl but I don't have a car so will mean a couple of shops per week with a 30min walk each way. Also I can't get everything I want from there so will mean top up elsewhere. This will lead to tempation to deviate from meal plan and make sticking to budget harder......
If DD and you want to eat more fruit and veg, and you lose some weight, could you not both of you walk to Li*l once a week at the weekend (rucksacks ??) and get the rest delivered once a month :)

Will you not have to give the in-laws some food monies and your DH will still have to eat :rotfl:

After that I would pay off debts first, then save anything left and have a look at what you need. HTH :)

    Another NSD here today :j
Hope you all have a frugal Friday

They are both the same kind of hard cheese but pecorino is from sheep's milk whilst the other is your regular cow's milk - I would think parmesan would be fine. Hope it goes well!

p.s, if you go to http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk and put 'pecorino cheese' in the search box it comes up in a couple of stores

£36.85 spent in Mr S last night as it was the last day my £4.50 voucher was valid and we had run out of skimmed milk, GF bread and dog food.

Most of the spend was on fruit, bread, cheese and stuff for lunches as well as the milk and dog food.

I haven't spent since Sunday when we stocked up on SW RM at icyland for DH which is an improvement on my almost daily spending.

The meal plan hasn't been stuck to but I have managed to talk DH out of a takeaway twice this week. I did try a new recipe for Enchiladas with a new type of GF wrap which was a success, really easy and quick recipe too.

We will buy some beer this weekend but there is enough food in the house, especially with me working away from Tuesday afternoon to Friday night, that we do not need to buy any more food. Famous last words;):o

    Morning all,

Had a delivery arrive, total of £62.18. Spent in total £161.33 which leaves £18.67 for the rest of the month. I am hoping not to have to spend anymore this month, as I have plenty in.

Trying to menu plan for three weeks worth of dinners but I do struggle with this, just get myself confuzzled! I will perservere though.

I will catch up with all today, hope all are getting on ok.

  • Went shopping on the way home from work yesterday, had good intentions of using Sainsbobs as had a £9 off £60 spend, but after a long day and horrendous traffic I decided to bypass the five extra miles needed to get there and reverted to Mr T's. Spent £148.82  but that was on a list compiled by OH who has taken over meal planning while he's off work. Wish he'd use some of the stuff and the mealplan we already have tbh, but as he's also prepping and cooking all meals at the mo don't want to upset him too much this early into his househusband routine. Still, we have oodles of food in the house now and am still underspent compared to this time last month. I hope to grab another NSD today as am home from work early and have no plans to go back out until I go to a get-together at a friend's house tonight - drinks and nibbles purchased in the Mr T megashop and taken out of my "social" budget. Off to update sig, have a good weekend everyone :)

Tomorrow morning will be my first shop for October, only buying stuff that's needed or I have run out of as I am eating down my freezer atm :) which means mainly fruit and veg and a few odds and ends, belt-tightening this month as I am going away for the weekend next month

£74.50 spent at the market this morning, and I'm panicking slightly! £230 left, 3 weekends to go, loo roll, chick peas, tomato puree and washing stuff yet to buy, along with the weekly fresh stuff... I shall just have to cut down further what I buy each week. However there's plenty in the freezer. But I've bought the flour online; delivery isn't cheap, but it wouldn't cost me a lot less to drive up there & back, and it does free up a lot of time! Another £7 just about to be added for a quarter of that...
