Credit card balance transfer - when is the best time to apply?

Hi,

The interest free period on my current credit card ends on 5th October. I've got a balance of about £1000 on it and won't be able to pay it all off by that date. I can reduce it by half after I get paid at the end of August (so first working day of September i can reduce it by half).

When is the latest I can apply for a new credit card with balance transfer, so that I don't incur interest on my current card?

you need to allow a couple of weeks for a new application to go through - sometimes they come back asking for proof of Id which adds a delay. I would apply early September if it was me
