having problems with barclaycard - please help

hi all, really dont know what to do here.

it may be a long one so bear with me, i'll try give the short version......

i have had a barclaycard for about 4 years, only £300 limit
and balance of about £280, with min payment coming out my account each month. it sits in my bedroom safely tucked away and hardly ever used, anyway 2 months ago my direct debit went out at £95, i dont usually check my statements as they get delivered to my mums house.

rang barclaycard up and asked for last few transactions, 3 transactions occurred which were not made by me all to a company called 'orange communications uk ltd' the phone number they gave me was a dead number, i have rang barclaycard 5 times now to dispute these transactions and they just pass me from pillar to post and then tell me they will send dispute forms out but they never come.

so then i ring again and i'm back to square one. bearing in mind its at least a 20 minute phonecall to an 0870 number from my mobile its coming to the point where i would have been better off paying the
charges and just accepting the transactions on my card.

i really am at the end of my tether with this and worse still i dont want all this screwing up my credit rating. the final straw came last week when i was on the phone for half an hour and they said they would hold the account until the dispute had been filed then 20 mins later someone rings me asking for payment of £80 as thats the minimum payment, i have also cancelled my direct debit til this is sorted as i cannot afford all the charges and then have to wait to claim them back.

who can i contact for help with this and what should i do?

many thanks in advance.

  • My advice would be to call 01642 663800 , Ask to speak to the "customer loyalty team"

The first person you speak too will try to ask what is your problem but be firm and say i need to speak to the CLT , explain to them and also tell them about the amount of calls/time youve spent ion the phone about this issue !!

Hope you get it sorted asap !!
  • You wouldn't get the forms would you if they were posted to your mum's address?

You could also write in and tell them that these transactions were not your doing and that any interest and charges are to be cleared.

Have they cancelled your card and issued you with a new account number and card because that would have been my first concern?

Secondly, I would either pop into a Barclays branch and see if they can help at all, or if you still can't get any joy phoning them - I would do as ejones suggests and write to them quoting the details of your account and disputing the transactions and requesting the appropriate paperwork.

I have heard from others on this forum the B/C are good at sorting these sorts of issues out quite quickly - especially once the dispute forms have been completed.

come on mate, give people some credit. not everybody is a complete fool.

obviously i've been going back/getting my mum to check the post for me to see if its arrived!!

cs27 - the card has not left my room in over 12 months, its not lost, just transactions have been made on it that were not done by me and as far as i can see are to a bogus non-existent company.

ontheup - cheers for that advice will do that.

Sorry, but if someone used your card details then surely you would want a new card with a new number, otherwise whoever knows your details could do it again tomorrow if they wished.

Changing the card is the only way to ensure that they don't re-use your details - I suggested this for your own security!

Can anyone else advise on this?

barclaycard wont cancel it cos its not lost or stolen, the card/account is on hold at the moment though so no further transactions can be applied to it.

My card was never out of my possession but fraudulent transactions appeared on it. Barclaycard cancelled it and reissued very quickly. Money back in about a week. Can't understand why they won't do that with yours.
  • I had a similar problem. I called them, they cancelled my card straight away and sent me a new one next week. They also sent me the forms to fill and hopefully I'll get my money back.
I had a different problem, though. I couldn't access my online account for two months. I tried on different PCs and browsers and OSs but no luck. I spent hours on the phone repeating myself, being asked the same questions and in the end given the same promise: We'll call you back. They never did although I officially posted complaints several times. I was on holiday abroad so I couldn't keep track on my records. I only found out about the bogus transaction when I got my statement next month. The problem is there was another transaction for card protection (30 pounds). I really didn't want that so I called to cancel it but unfortunately the deadline to do that was very conviniently (for them) on the day my statement was issued.
The new card they send me was successfully registered so I can now access my online account.
Can anyone help me with this situation, please? Where should I complain about this?
    Thanks in advance.
