Project Mortgage Neutral Begins

Last week was 18 years since I took out my first mortgage, I would originally have been MF in Feb 2030 but it is currently Sep 2039. I did some calculations (which I probably need to check) but I *think* I need to save or OP £500 a month and I will be MF in the original timeframe. I am saving more than that so think this might be possible without too much of a change in plans. I am going to check this again and see, ideally I would like to be rid of it a year before for my 50th but figure I will have enough in savings to clear whatever is left at that point.

just catching up. What did you decide about the engagement ring? Is there anything you could do with it to make it a wearable joy rather than a memento of a past? My mother had her wedding ring and engagement ring re made into one ring which I now have and is beautiful. It now looks like a really modern diamond ring (which I probably should insure)Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Have a look at remodelling and upcycling jewellery on insta or just google for some inspiration and if you have other bits you haven't worn you could maybe incorporate that into something. Maybe it could become a statement piece for your new life.
I've a sentimental wedding ring from a family member that at some point I will ask a jeweller to use the gold to make a ring that does not look like a wedding ring but I would know what it was. Before posting here I did a web search and I've some old silver rings with stones from India in. I'm thinking I will have the stones taken out and used in the gold ring so it combines sentimentality with a part of my life that is now gone if that makes sense. I'm glad we had this chat because the silver rings now longer fit and I was going to drop off at a charity shop but I have now decided what to do with them!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I am really lacking enthusiasm for doing anything. I had to force myself to the supermarket this morning because I didn't have any food. I am off and at home until Tuesday next week so trying to alternate a day doing things around the house/garden with a day trip out somewhere. It all seems very quiet doing everything on my own though. I am trying to get comfortable with my own company but it appears I really am not.The way I am trying to get through my day is:1) something I need to do - shopping so this is done2) something I should do - put washing from last week's holiday and my case away3) something I would like to do - I haven't got a clue about this one. While I am working away I don't get much time at home so kind of want to be here but equally don't want to waste my time off.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

sometimes the single lark is hard. I know you left your partner a while back but from memory you still spent time with him for a while.
I'm making my "would like to do" simple read or cuddle a teddy bear!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I'm making my "would like to do" simple read or cuddle a teddy bear!Yes, we spent quite a lot of time together, especially during lockdown. It has got easier but we were together for a long time and there are still things I come up against where I don't have my own way of dealing with things and doubt my ability to try!MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I really do need to post in here a little more often, I tend to read other people's diaries and then log off.
Money/mortgage related, my mortgage total is now below £70k which seems like a great milestone. It was £107500 when I moved here just over 4 years ago, I am currently OPing a nominal amount and saving the rest to OP later but I am happy with this plan while the interest rates are higher for my savings.
I am working away at the moment and even when I am home I have been here there and everywhere so haven't spent that much time in the house. Only 10 weeks and I will be back here and I can try and get back on top of the garden and decorations plans; until then, I just need to do what I can. I finally cut the long grass 3 weeks ago, this weekend I am going to attack some of the weeds. I don't want to go crazy as I will probably hurt my back so it will be small bits at a time.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200
