Virgin mobile

Options
Me and my partner have both registered with Clearscore.

On my partners it says 'One of your accounts is in arrears'

It is with Virgin Mobile and it says the balance is £275.
Account opened May 2011
It shows no payments have been made since July 2012

He has never received any communication from them about it.

Since 2012 he has been accepted for a mobile contract with EE (in 2013), a credit card (Aug 2012) and this year a mortgage.

My questions is if he was just to leave it as it is, when does it disappear from his file?

Would it be May 2017 (6 years after opening the account)
Or July 2018 (6 years after last making a payment)

Thank you

If it hasn't been defaulted, then I don't think it will drop off at all.

    Thank you

No it doesn't say default anywhere, on the overview page under Negatives on your file it says:

At least one of your accounts has been seriously in arrears (VIRGIN MOBILE TELECOMS LTD)

Sorry what is the difference between arrears and a default?

If he hasn't paid any money to them for 4 years surely it would be in default by now?

Sorry just to add; on the positives section it says "None of your accounts are in default"

A default is a formal notice, ending the agreement (but wanting payment).

    Arrears means continued late payments.

It SHOULD have been defaulted after around 6 months. When was the last time he received any comms about the account? How does he think the account ended? ie does he agree he missed payments, or does he think it was closed correctly?

I will have to ask him if he thinks he closed the account (although he was a bit of an idiot in his younger days so I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped paying it)

I have been with him since 2012 and they have never sent him a letter about it.

So, if we don't do anything would it just stay on his file and never disappear?

Its thankfully not a huge amount, what is the best thing to do?
Is it worth phoning Virgin and if they are showing a balance for him just pay it?

Personally, I would get in contact, check it's a valid debt, clear it and get the account closed.

At least that way, you would know it is definitely going to disappear 6 years from now. But it would also be worth checking with them if it had defaulted, and if not, to request that a default is registered for the appropriate date (ie four years ago).

I wouldn't personally want to live with the uncertainty of a future default or CCJ. But others may have a different view.

For example if I paid it today, will it be on there for another 6 years from today? :-O

Would be interesting to see what the other 2 agencies have on record, consider signing up for the other 2 reports, Noddle and Experian.
