Yes you do. Locks are very cheap.
Not sure why the need for the thread asking this question.
Enjoy your new house.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
I would/have.
It is usually a simple cylinder change - see youtube.
B&Q will be about a tenner per lock. Probably cheaper elsewhere.0 -
I never have and I have never suffered as a consequence.
Which, of course, is just my experience.
If it makes you feel safer, change them. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
I changed the locks, and advised my daughter to do so when she bought her house. It's not expensive, and you know who has keys to the new locks.0

Yes, our new neighbours handed us back a set of keys a few days after moving in (we had already changed the locks in any case). Who knows who else had a set.0 -
We changed the locks about a year after moving in. Not for any particular reason but my partner just wanted to have it done.
The house came with an alarm so we changed the passcode as soon as we got the place so that was peace of mind enough for me. We got the place from a very elderly couple so they were the last people we'd expect to rob us.0 -
Yes, and make sure you get British Standard locks. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Same here. I've never heard of burglars prowling the neighbourhood with a massive bunch of spare keys. More likely to make their way in using standard household tools, size 10 Doc Martens, or your own carelessness in leaving the door/window unlocked.0 -
I always advise doing so, but in reality never have in the 7 houses I've bought!

When my parents were an 'elderly couple', copies of their keys were given to all sorts of people. Quite a few family members and neighbours had them; their regular cleaner had her own set; for other visitors, there was a keysafe which several organisations had the code for.
It would have been impossible for me to be sure that I had collected up all the keys when we sold the house from people who had them legitimately - who knows who may have had copies made unofficially?0
