O/S Daily Friday 5th August 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to that that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, light cloud with sun trying to make an appearance, dry underfoot, and the blustery wind has died off, hoping for a reasonable day. DS2 is supposed to be getting up at a reasonable time so we can get his bed stripped and in the WM, he is coming with me to do the food shopping first thing.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready and DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was frittata, I made it with bacon lardons, chorizo, mushrooms, loads of eggs, and then melted some cheese on top, I served it with a side salad, and jacket potatoes, with beans, and coleslaw/pasta salad, dessert was apple strudel and custard - clean plates all round, everyone happy.
Tonight will be chicken and ham kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk, I'll be having mushroom omelette and salad.

Today I will be heading to the SM first thing with DS2, I like to get there before it gets busy. I will be doing some cooking/baking this afternoon. I wasn't very productive yesterday, although I did get the dirty wash basket empty, with everything being washing, dried and ironed, although now there is another small load to put in WM. I also stripped our bed, got all the bed linen washed, dried and then re-made our bed, so the day wasn't completely wasted, also visited town and did jobs there, and went to buy eggs, a free range farm - I've only been once before and didn't really know where I was going but after going the wrong way twice then found it, so all good I have 30 free range eggs all big eggs too for £5 - based on what the SM charge for 6 free range eggs - I think mine are pretty good value. I only buy a tray of 30 because I use a lot in normal cooking and baking.

Have good Fridays' everyone x

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Woke very early again but slept soundly all night. Outside is dry.

Yesterday was lovely and sunny. Work was quiet again so I escaped early to do my shopping. The butcher still closes for lunch as do the banks so I needed to get to them.

I struggled with on online learner who has spent a year doing no work, despite my monthly nudging emails, and now wants more time. She was surprised when given only two months and tried to blame us for not telling her how to use the online system! Induction sessions are recorded! End of moan.

If the sun comes out I'll do a white wash as gales are forecast for tomorrow and most of Sunday. I've got eggs for breakfast and beef korma for later meal.

I hope everyone has a good Friday. Special thoughts to csarina and OH.

Topsy my son joined the army but they slung him out after 6 weeks because of his dodgy knees, then he got an motor mechanics apprenticeship, he's nearly 30 now and is in the fire service.

Csarina, I hope DB improves soon.

NMLC, thanks for starting us off.

It's sunny here today I have washing ready to go on the line and after I've dropped hubby at work and visited the cats I will get rid of more stuff. I'm putting out by the bin and most of it is disappearing so someone must think it's useful.

I borrowed a stairgate yesterday so hubby can do the painting without help from DD's dogs, DD has also offered to lend me some wicker baskets to put stuff in to make the bedrooms look tidier.

It's time I made hubby another cuppa.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. A lovely beginning to the day here, the sun is shining and yesterday's drizzle and wind has gone elsewhere.

Oncology was running like clockwork yesterday and we were in and out in record time. Why can't it always be like that! It meant we were back home again by mid afternoon. Plenty of time to sort out tea before the DGDs descended after swimming. Youngest DGD is 6 tomorrow so they had been out for lunch with another family as their son shares the same birthday. DD is working today and all weekend so they are all at their dads for her actual birthday.

Meanwhile they are here all day today so its fingers crossed for nice weather and we can get up to the moors with their bikes. They were quite late to bed so I'm hoping they have a long sleep in!

Yet another day when catching up on jobs is out so it'll be a busy weekend ahead. And there is still the garden chaos ongoing.

Thinking of LAINEY and CSARINA and hoping today brings better news re treatment. (((HUGS))) to all else who want one and take care xx

Nice bright day here hope its set in for the weekend, off to work for me but an easy day as I am on a meds course this morning (we have to do this every 18 months to learn how to give medicines ) and I am taking this afternoon off as lieu so a nice restful start to the weekend.

We booked our holiday yesterday in a converted barn in Devon which has just been finished we were lucky to find it at such short notice, but its lovely and you walk down the garden and there is a canal at the end, we are so looking forward to it we all need a break.

Takeaway night tonight and a glass of wine or two, I love Fridays, I need to take my car in to have the exhaust checked as its rattling but I had it done about a year ago with a lifetime guarantee so it should be covered.

    Hugs to Laniney and Csarina.

    Have good days all xx

Morning all, thanks nmlc for the thread X

((Hugs)) to csarina and Lainey for their poorlies xxx

Still waiting to hear back on DHs third IV and also the other two companies that want to see him next week for the first time. The mind boggles how these people think - two days ago we were promised a return phone call. Two days is a long time when you're out of work!

Today I am at the church and we have Japanese students in, so I will get there early to set up their rooms. Blood donors this afternoon and then ds2 and I will do a 3km walk. He was sick yesterday whilst I was at work (did actually chuck up not faking it) so we didn't get to go on our 8km trek to Morrisons. Managed to get him off the sofa and to local Tesco to help with a top up shop of fruit and veg though. He likes the scan and pack service - he is 12 - probably when he's an adult this will be all there is as humans will be replaced by machines.

We have a veggie coming for tea tonight so I need to grab some veggie burgers later. We will have DR sliders which I've not tried before with some chips - yum.

    Have a great day all

Just been for daily cycle ride, bit blowy!

Off to lottie later so that will dictate dinner tonight, have plenty of fish, chicken etc in.

Spoke to son in Rio last night, he's go tickets to some finals in the cycling events, very envious! All geared up there for today, he won't have much time off now.

Hugs to all those with poorlies, thinking of you Lainey and Csarina.

Good morning, it is beautiful here, blue skies, some white clouds and a lovely, gentle breeze.

I'm off to work in a minute, so just a quick post, hoping that Deleted_User and LaineyT have positive days with good news.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you want one.

I had a long email from my step son last night. OH was dizzy free all day yesterday, so here is hoping that they have gone for good. He is going to have to have heparin injections in his stomach for quite a while after he comes home.

I am on the horns of a dilemma. 2 parcels coming from Scotland, delivery before 6 pm. I need to be here when they are delivered, money involved. I did not see OH at all yesterday, but not having a 'slot' for delivery means it could come any time during the day. I am loathe not to go in at all. Was thinking I might go this morning but he is scheduled to go for a scan at some point which means I could go and he not be there. Do I wait for the delivery and then go in even if it does not arrive until after 6pm. Oh dear. I think I will have to rig the ward and ask them to get him to phone me.

Its a dullish morning, I thought I might cut the grass on the front it needs it.

    Morning everyone,

Dry and reasonably bright here, we are forecasted to have a nice weekend.

Spoke to Mum last night, she had a reasonable day, managed to get our with her friends to do usual Thursday shop and had sat outside reading for a while. She is due to ring her consultant this afternoon if no news. Hopefully she will be coming to come to ours for the weekend which will be lovely.
Work was pretty awful again and I counted down the hours until I left, have updated my CV and am on the look out for something else. My DOH has said leave straight away but that doesn't sit well with me and would much rather have something else to go to.
Today will be getting house ready and some food in, have been eating from freezer/ stores a bit the last few days so will go shopping and replenish the stocks. I changed our bed yesterday and cleaned the downstairs loo so a start has been made.

Csarina, thinking of you m'dear, hope your OH feels better x
RR, the Devon barn sounds sublime.
Glad the appointment went well TA

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Good morning chums,

Yesterday my friend and I cooked a homemade nandos, a whole chicken, spicy sweet potato wedges and spicy rice. Was delish although the chicken could've been doing with longer in the oven, some parts had a slight tinge of pink.

So after a fun night last night, it's back to the grind today. Office politics coupled with a slow handover to my colleagues because I'm leaving means that work has became unpleasant. Maybe the weekend will refresh everyone and things will change next. Hope so.

It's my GF's mums birthday today so not sure what the plan is tonight yet but I'm hoping it's another NSD.

Thoughts going to all of you who's family members are poorly. Lucky we have a supportive group here, particularly on this daily thread.

Have a wonderful day peeps and if I don't swing by later, a great weekend too!
