Payday loan / serious accident

My nephew has been in a serious accident and is currently in a coma. He has a payday loan and my husband is trying to contact them to let them know the situation but is only getting an overseas call centre who either don't understand him, or are being deliberately obtuse. He has also emailed but had no response.
Does anybody have any advice as to who we can contact? I think the company is part of Lending Stream. Husband has asked to speak to somebody in the UK but no luck yet. We don't have access to my nephew's bank account so we can't have a look at whether he can cover the amount.
Any advice gratefully received. This is already a very difficult time without having to deal with obstructive bureaucracy :(

What would you tell them when or if you get to speak to someone ?
They won't be able to talk to you about the account due to the DPA.
  • The least of your problems is a payday loan.

When my brother had a serious accident, there was a social services team on hand when we got to specialist unit, we may have got no help in coming to terms what happened but I remember thinking what happens if you have no money and well something life changing happens, when my brother's paid for chair was built in front of my very eyes and under the picture of patron of the unit. But Mum and Dad said any money worries were their's and wouldn't hear of anything else.

I think you need to write a recorded letter personally. And I'll repeat again the least of worries. I'm sure the FOS will see you are ok in the event of wrong doing these days. A lot different to people who struggled 5 years ago and still get discriminated against today.

If you know his sort code and account number you could just transfer some money to his account to see him through.

Indeed, just get the details off his debit card.

Normally a senior nurse or doctor issues a letter to send out to say that the person is in...condition and will be unable to see to their financial affairs.

    Won't they get sick pay?

Thanks for all the responses, I realise that money is the least of his worries but we are just trying to do something practical to help his mum, who doesn't need to be bothered with this right now.
He is being paid and there is money in the account to cover it but no direct debit set up, unfortunately.
We finally got through to someone who understood, and a letter from the hospital will allow them to deal with my husband apparently.

Payday loan companies rarely use direct debits they just take the payment from the debit card on the account on the day that the person agreed to pay it back.
  • Just ensure he has enough in his bank for them to take funds so he doesn't default!
