Washing machine repair

Washing machine went bang, distinct smell of burn. Same smell as capacitor when it blows.
Looked at service manuals and it lists an interference capacitor, to me it sounds just a motor run capacitor.
So question is could a motor run capacitor be used in place of the interference capacitor. I would replace like for like, but everywhere I have checked it says no longer stocked or manufactured.
Cheers

I am sure some experts will advise but interference capacitors are for suppression for external interferences. Ultimately a capacitor is a capacitor. As long as you get a capacitor with same technical parameters it is the same. U should also check with manufacturer.0

A nice electrical smell is probably the motor gone.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Motor still turns, reason for thinking ( not taken apart yet), is a do make small electronic projects and for fun have destroyed a lot of caps in my time.
Just never heard of interference capacitor and very little info online.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
As long as you have the right test equipment and are comfortable with mains voltage electrical equipment it shouldn't be too difficult, you'll find a suppressor cap somewhere (if it went it may be obvious) on the motor supply. Remove and test it, with luck the capacitance and voltage will be on it, if not you'll have to guess, something rated at about 600v would be adequate. If it's a coil on the motor then you'll need to find if a replacement is available, what make is it?
Edit: plenty of online spares suppliers eg http://www.appliancespareswarehouse.co.uk/washing-machinesFor every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
