Can I claim???

Hello
I'm hoping for some advice.
I've got contents cover with Tesco Home Insurance which includes accidental damage.
I've stupid dropped my eternity ring in the toilet and by time I realised it was long gone.
Tescos are telling me I cannot claim for it because it has 'left the house' down the soil pipe and therefore would class as being away from the home and I would have needed personal possessions cover.
I'm very upset and angry that I've lost this ring.
Is this right what they are telling me??
Surely it matters where it was lost not where it ends up??
I'm hoping for some advice.

Maybe they aren't explaining it well.Iluvhazrules wrote: »Tescos are telling me I cannot claim for it because it has 'left the house' down the soil pipe and therefore would class as being away from the home and I would have needed personal possessions cover.
You have accidental damage cover which covers accidental damage. Your ring isn't damaged - its lost.
Personal possessions covers loss or damage in or away from the home.
It's not so much where the loss happened, is what cover you have that's important.
Is there an inspection cover in the garden that someone could check and see if it stopped there?0 -

Next time you are faced with something like this don't contact your insurer first!
This loss will now be on your record (even though you cannot make a claim) and must be disclosed to other insurers you approach for quotes over the next 3/5 years depending on the length of history required, with an inevitable impact on your premiums
Never contact an insurer regarding a loss unless you are certain you can make a successful claim0
