Hi if a lost baggage claim was put in at an airport but no reference number was given - is that just tough of the person who has lost their bag (legally) or do the airline have a duty to make sure that it was given out when it was reported please?

How would you prove they didn't give a reference number out?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

Well they have e-mailed to say that the bag has been sent home so it was obviously reported - but it was lost again. And there's still no reference for it given. But yes I see your point thank you.0

If they have emailed you to say it's been sent out it's normally sent tracked.
However the email does give you proof the bag was reported lost.
The ref is normally the barcode number on your baggage sticker (you should have retained your half) the little one they stick to your passport/ paperwork.
I travel a lot and I loose about 1 bag a year, but they usually turn up normally about a week later.

That is incorrect. There should be a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) raised at the airport. This is what will be missing for the OP. Unfortunately, sub contracted baggage companies at some airports can be lax at giving these out, but as a passenger you shouldn't leave without it.travelchick wrote: »The ref is normally the barcode number on your baggage sticker (you should have retained your half) the little one they stick to your passport/ paperwork.
OP. Normally I would say you are at the mercy of Ryanair without a PIR, but the email helps make your case so keep at them.0
