CAR HIRE - Failed Experian Credit Check - Still had to pay for hire!

Except you're forgetting one detail.
There are TWO separate companies involved here - the broker and the hirer. The broker have merely checked availability, made a reservation, and are processing the payment. The hirer are the ones who are checking entitlement to rent, and are then refusing that rental.
Even better then. I can just set up a 'broker' to steer mugs to my van-hire 'company' to muddy the waters further and bounce people from one to the other until they give up.0 -
Are you suggesting that Avis are in on this "scam"?usefulmale wrote: »Even better then. I can just set up a 'broker' to steer mugs to my van-hire 'company' to muddy the waters further and bounce people from one to the other until they give up.0 -
get on to your card provider and claim it back..Sealed pot challenger # 10

They are the ones hiding behind a pointless credit check. The van will be insured to death, either by Avis or by the hirer, so, whatever happens to the van, Avis will be compensated.
As long as the money is in Avis' account before the key are handed over, what's the issue?0 -
Probably something to do with needing an empty credit card to charge the £1000 excess to when they find all that "unrecorded" damage on its return
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Everybody seems to be talking about a "Credit Check" but the OP said their partner failed the "Experian security check"
Would that mean they couldn't prove their address? No electoral roll entry? No utility bills etc?0 -

That's probably because in the opening post it states 'Experian Credit Check' in a later post though the OP says Experian security check, so some confusion, was it a credit check or just a security check ie prof of ID and address documents needed?I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Thanks all. Apologies, it wasn't a credit check it was an Experian Security Check. They cant tell us why she didnt pass either, we have to go to Experian to find out. I guess our options are...
1. Roll over and take it.
2. Write to someone at either of the companies.
3. Get on to our card provider and claim it back.
4. Post an angry tweet.
5.....anything else?
Thanks again.0 -

Another thing you need to be looking at is your credit reports. Get a £2 report from experian and then use clearscore and noddle (both free) to check the other two agencies.
A security check will just be a verification of who you are. So you need to make sure you are on the electoral roll so you wont get this problem in the future.
Also it's always good to regularly check your credit reports to make sure everything is correct.0 -
Ok, funny you should say this. We just checked her Experian credit report, she was in the 800s out of 999 which is rated in the upper end of 'fair.'
It then comments on the negatives against the name which are that she has no negatives. Shes never been in debt so has never settled any debts, this is held against you and makes you a risk. So for this we have been penalised. Its not fair.0
