Moving Home and Changing "default" Supplier?

I'm moving house from rented to owning.
I currently have Company A supplying gas and electric.
Company B supplies new house. I'd like to be supplied by Company A.
When I move in, will Company A just take over and go from there? Obviously I'll supply them with move-in meter readings.
Do I have to tell Company B that they're no longer supplying the property?
Thank you

You need to register with Company B, and give them opening readings. Then (the same day if you want) you can switch to Company A. It takes a few weeks to switch, so you will have a small bill with B.
This forum is littered with people who have just moved in, and ask Company A for supply. Then, months later, they get hit with a big bill from Company B, as they didn't register, the consumption is estimated and they have no way to disprove it.0 -
Thanks
I'll see what's happening with Company B. It's not a usual one - never heard of it!0 -
"Never heard of Comany B" ?
Then they are probably one of the new kids on the block, and as such are likely to be cheaper than any of the Big 6, the downside is that the newer players sometimes struggle with efficient billing and customer service.
Before you Switch away get their tariffs and compare to Company A, then if they look OK use this site to check for customer comments0
