NFU Mutual Car Insurance includes RAC cover

I have had my car insurance with NFU Mutual for more than 5 years and stupidly had not looked into what the "Mutual Assist" breakdown cover was that is included with the insurance. Nowhere in the policy documentation does it indicate that this is actually provided by the RAC (same as their Roadside Rescue). Nor was I aware that for £34.99 per year the NFU will upgrade the cover to "National plus Home Assist". Therefore I have been paying separately for RAC "At Home and Roadside" cover. I have been told today by the RAC (after directly asking them the question), that the cover direct from them under the At Home and Roadside (vehicle) membership and the National plus Home Assist provided via the NFU is for all practical purposes the same. I have also realised that the NFU insurance includes Legal Cover, which I am also paying for separately with the RAC, so I need to do a comparison of these as well.

I got a quote from them the other day and they explained all that to me, but the quote was atronomical, even with the free breakdown cover it was 8x dearer than our actual final choice for policy.

I wont mention the name because you will go ooh no, but a cheap runabout first car the price matters more.
