I hope my bamboo doesn't grow a foot a day, I have planted 9 straight into the ground
I have venitian blinds on every window, I just never bother dropping the landing one, because the cat climbs through it when i do, he has bent it already. Might need to invest in a proper wooden one for there.
Thanks for all your help everybody, think I will leave the trellis seeing as I am going to have a bamboo forrest soon!0 -

It's not too late to act. Dig a large trench around the bed that the bamboos are in.
Into this trench, put the largest (height wise) roll of metal or plastic garden edging you can find. Make sure it goes all the way around the whole bed of plants. If possible, put two rolls in, one on top of the other, and fill the trench in, leaving a little of the edging sticking out. This should help
And when it comes to thinning the bamboo out, keep the longest thickest canes (whilst they are still thin enough to be able to cut!) and strip the leaves and leave them to dry. Now you have your own supply of garden canes.
Any extras can be given to any local hungry pandas you know. :j0 -
Thanks Sooz, I will do that0
