Decorating advice needed

Hey, just wondering if there's any experienced decorators who could give me some advice... I am about to start painting my lounge after having it damp proofed. I have only had the bottom part of the plaster replaced, so have a wall of half old and half new plaster...! I understand that the best way to seal new plaster is to to dilute the emulsion paint I am going to use, but then I will need to prime the old plaster... just see the whole thing potentially getting quite messy! Has anyone any suggestions for some product which might do both jobs??
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

I'd have thought that you could use the dilute emulsion trick on the old as well as the new. Someone more knowledgeable than me should be along to confirm, hopefully.
There is a recent thread on what to use etc. Just make sure it's matt, but NOT VINYL (I learned that the hard way
). Debbie0 -
Debbie is correct about the Vinyl, but, when you had the damp proofing done, the bit of new plaster they did, did they go back to the brick?
In other words, did they just do a skim plaster, (one coat), or did they do a bonding plaster, leave for a day or so, and came back and did another coat of plaster?0 -
They went back to the brick and put bonding plaster in, yea.0
