O/S Daily Thursday 4th August 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, bright with sunshine but windy and warm. The wind got blustery during yesterday but today seems to have died off a bit. Have a load of washing ready to go out, will get another in the WM in a moment.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and gone to work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was sausges, chicken wrapped in bacon, (didn't have enough of either so did a mixture, used up some odd bits of "cook from frozen" chicken fillets which were tiny), roasties, LO cauli/broc cheese, peas, last part of a bag of mixed veg, HG green beans, LO yorkshires and gravy - no complaints and clean plates all round. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be eating, but I'm thinking of jacket potatoes/stuffed jackets, frittata/quiche (as I have eggs, bacon lardons, chorizo sausage, mushrooms, ham, cheese, coleslaw, pasta salad, salad). I may make a dessert of some sort, I don't want to spend any money though if I can help it, so there's my challenge for the day!

I'll be heading into town first thing to visit the building society and bank. I need to then visit travel agent's - company that we're thinking of using next year for a holiday were supposed to send us a brochure that still hasn't arrived, hoping to get 1 from travel agents. I have all the normal "to do" list chores to do today, so need to crack on with those, but will be washing, drying and ironing, as hoping to use the windy sunny weather to my advantage.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning,

Thanks for the thread nmlc X

I am just enjoying a cuppa and an apple before the gym, then I'm in the charity offices for a few hours. Later I will walk to Morrisons and back with ds2 which I've mapped out as almost 8km round trip. Yesterday we walked to Waitrose and back which was almost 5.5km. He needs the exercise and is so far not complaining!

I've just put a wash on and DH will hang it out later. Dinner is HM cannelloni so I will need to get some cream when we go for our walk later.

Hugs to all those in need, especially csarina and Lainey who have poorly relatives.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Looks murky outside, yesterday there was rain all day even though it was mild enough to keep my front door open. Cows were being turned out in the big field so I watched them bring driven down the track for a bit.

This morning I've got three hours of work and then I'll do a little shopping whilst in the town. Yesterday I ate half a rib eye steak which I dug out of the freezer, it was delicious. I made an onion and sour cream sauce and then splashed in some old Pedro X sherry I found lurking in the back of a cupboard. All this stuff needs used up, no-one drinks sweet pudding sherry here anymore.

I hope everyone has a good Thursday.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We have had heavy rain through the night but the sun is now peeping through and the rain supposed to fizzle out.

Just a quickie as we have Mr TA's monthly Oncology appointment in Leeds today and need to be out of the door by 9.30. The usual snacks, drink and reading matter going too in case a long wait. Then it will be a rush back home again as the 3 DGDs are here for tea, sleepover and minding all day tomorrow. I think tea will be some of yesterday's yummy sausage delivery. It will be a long tiring day.

As always last night's girlie wine and carvery evening was enjoyed by all with much gossiping, catching up on news and putting the world to rights.

The back garden project is now on hold till the weekend and currently looks one big mess. We'll get there sometime.

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where wanted. Take care all xx

I bought that bit of pork from asda on special offer which we have at mums last night, there is enough left for us to have tonight with some chips and pickle, it was very tasty so I am very much looking forward it it.

Just waiting to hear if DD can have holiday then we can go ahead and book ours, we have found a barn in Cornwall, Mum does not want to come now, but it will sleep the rest of us and take the two dogs too..

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Got jolted awake by cramp in my leg so feel a bit bleary eyed now but I am determined to stay awake today as my sleeping pattern is not great at the moment.

It's grey out and quite windy but at least it's dry. Hubby has left for work and the girls are still asleep. I'm not surprised as they all had their bedroom lights on at 2 this morning. I expect to see them around lunchtime :).

I had a nice surprise yesterday when an old friend came to see me. She is going through a very messy divorce at the moment so we mostly talked about that...well I say we, she talked and I listened for five hours. I think she felt a lot better afterwards for getting a lot of it off her chest. I have always been a good listener so I didn't mind.
She brought me sad news from my church though, my pastor and his family have left to go back to Wales. They were a brilliant family and I will miss them very much. I do so wish I had been able to go to church and say goodbye to them all.

DD15 cooked tea last night but it wasn't very nice, not her fault, it was the quality or lack of I should say, of the mince that let the meal down. Never mind, DD13 has also made a chilli for tonight which will be lovely I'm sure. All I have to do is cook either rice or jacket potatoes and make a salad.

Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning all

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

    Hugs to Csarina and Lainey.

Hubby's been dropped at work, DD1's dogs have been fed and are now asleep on the sofa either side of me. SIL made us a plate of sausage rolls for hubby and a plate of profiteroles for me as a thank you, I shall put on a stone or two if I eat them all myself.

Another day of photography here today trying to sell hubby's gardening stuff and some jewellers equipment and then on with the decorating, dogs permitting!

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

DIL came over yesterday and gave me loads of ideas for dressing the house

Morning all, dry but cool here.

Thank you for starting off nmlc.

Dumpling you might like to write a letter or a card for your pastor and family 1 although you may not be given the address, those who organise church matters would be able to send it on for you.

My days off today and tomorrow but am working part of today and all of tomorrow though I will be paid a fee for some of it.

Still tired but a bit more cheerful.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning everyone,

Quick one today as am running late.

Thank you all so much for the good wishes regarding my darling Mum, it means a lot x
The MRI scan went well and she was pleased as they had some Nat King Cole to listen to, one of her favourites :)
She is going to ring her consultants office later today if no results etc has come through, guess it's just a waiting game now.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one.

OH much the same, still blacking out, although the cat scan was ok. Still waiting for the EEG results, that might tell us a bit more. He has to go for another scan on his lungs today.

I am not going in today, I need a rest from driving. Want to try and do a bit of weeding in the back garden. Need to check the beans and courgette too. I also have bed linen to iron from Monday. Grass needs cutting too. Hey ho.

Not too sure what we shall do this afternoon, possibly go to Capstone Park for a nice long walk with the little dog. Jack has his CS shift this morning so he won't be home until lunchtime
