Another one for Chicago, but then I'm not much interested in history. I love the atmosphere of Chicago and the beauty of the lake, although clearly nicer in the Summer months!

Choose your destination based on what's there to do that appeals to you, not because it's simpler to get there or back.

I think you'll be restricted to AA or Aer Lingus, as United don't fly when you want to go unless they've expanded the service since I last looked.

To answer your question, if it was me it would be Philadelphia if only 2 or 3 days, Chicago if more. I've been to both although it was a few years ago for Philadelphia.

Many many years ago spent one day in Chicago (that was on a tour so couldn't stay longer!) and several days in Philadelphia which I found very interesting historically. I enjoyed both but guess they will have changed quite a bit (not the buildings!)

I have been to Philadelphia, flew Dublin to JFK, and stayed in NYC for five days, then got a bus to Philadelphia and stayed for four days, but we arrived on Sunday and lots of things were closed, then went on to Washington D.C. for three days, which was lovely, really nice and three days wasn't enough.

This was back in 2007, Philadelphia was dirty in parts, lots of homeless, but there was some nice interesting parts too.

I think two days would be adequate,

Thanks to those who replied since my last post.

Washington will be four days, Nashville just two, (I can't stand country music but I'm sure it will be interesting for OH lol), and then five/six days in.............it's looking like Chicago!

As you can see we will be hopping from place to place and the last thing I want is a one or two stop flight on the way back. So direct to Dublin it has to be!

Philly just looks like a nice place, easy to get to NY too. But on balance, I think there is a lot more to Chicago alright.

    Ohh good Chicago!

Check out the aquarium - it really is fantastic (but not as good as Chatanooga which is worth a trip all on its own)

Also the boat trip along the river - really informative.
