what job would you do?
The reason I ask is I am looking at potential redundancy at the end of the year and I am taking this as a chance to think about what I really really want to do....the problem is I don't know!
If I could afford not to work and re-train (and afford the retraining) I would really love to be a pilot or a criminal psychologist, but both require a lot of time to undertake training and a lot of money - both of which I don't have!
My other hobby is making cakes, love making them for the kids and seem to have got a bit better but I can't decorate them for the life of me! So as my birthday present DH is going to buy me a course of cake decorating, sounds sad but I think it will be quite therapeutic (sp) and may even lead onto something I could earn from.
I have done the same job for 12 years and know nothing else, so I think I had better go back to the job search front and not look at pilot and psychologist vacancies!!

have you thought about doing cakes for Birthdays and wedding etc. I know when I was looking at wedding cakes some of the were priced at abuot £700+ if your good you could do really well. Even as a side line to start with.
Personally I would love to open a bridal shop, if I ever have the money of course.Current debt - £16,300
Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Sorry to hear about your possible redundancy. Last year at work we went through the same thing and it is difficult and some people are doing things now they always dreamed of (chocolate producer). Grab the chance ,if it arrives, you never know it may be the icing on the cake
(No pun intended)
My ideal job would be a PGA golf Pro
Good luck

I'd like to be a spaceman to get away from all the sh**yness on this planet.
Failing that I'd love to work with animals. Preferably with very little human contact.

My ideal job would be author - writing books about travel and history. Roaming the world and writing about it.
Good luck with your decision making. Can you think about what it is about being a pilot/psychologist that appeals to you, then think about other jobs that would have those same qualities, without requiring expensive training?
I have a book called 'Zen and the Art of Making a Living' which is meant to be good at helping you make these choices. However I've never been able to read it (600 pages long and full of Zen quotes). I will gladly send it to you if you think it might be useful. It has rave reviews on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zen-Art-Making-Living-Practical/dp/0140195998/ref=sr_1_1/203-8540921-1020745?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189610834&sr=8-1Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

I know someone who designs roller coasters! I never thought I would ever be able to drop that into conversation!
He did a degree at Derby Uni had to encorporate architecture I think.
Anyway now he desgins casinos interiors, roller coasters - which are his passion and gets paid a lot of money for something he loves.
Money no object I would be a primary school teacher I love little children.0 -

I think I'd like to be a 'fixer'. Someone who organises other people's parties, weddings (and christenings and funerals - I've done 'em all!), special events, outings, holidays etc. for them. A sort of concierge service for those important moments in life.I am the leading lady in the movie of my life
