Help choosing laptop please for work

Hi,
I've just secured a new job which I need to get a laptop.

It will be used purely for email, spreadsheets, internet, (and what ever else the boss wants it used for).

Also what do I use for spreadsheets, I used excel many years ago (but only as a tester for about 1 month) so I'm blind to it all now.

Can anyone recommend a laptop, budget is £500 (but will go lightly dearer for the right one)
We have HP's at home.

Thanks in advance.

  • Where will you be using it?

    In the office only?

    At other company's offices?

On/in transport, such as trains, aeroplanes, cars etc.?

What about size (including screen size) and weight?

It will be used between 3 sites (2 offices and home)
    Won't be used on transport.
As for screen size something reasonable (15" /17") not sure if 13 " would be too small.
What size would be best for spreadsheets?
Not sure if our own laptop is 15" or 17" although I don't very often use it I mainly surf on the ipad.

As you'll get a far better screen and battery life than most i3 machines in your price range.

As far as specs go you're not after anything that requires special functionality. So try before you buy in PC World but find a better price elsewhere.

Since it is a work laptop, I assuming you don't need lot of storage?

so, who's paying for Office for this laptop? You, or work? Clarify this before you buy a laptop, you may find your hardware budget is reduced by approx. £120 to allow you to buy Office 2016..... if work are paying, then you can up the hw budget but you won't need to spend £500 on a laptop for your stated useage ;)
