Inheritance from US??

My friend from Leeds lost her uncle in the US. A solicitor has said she will inherit some money but it's nothing like what she expected, she is obviously grateful for anything and frankly has been in terrible grief for the past year. The money should be transferred in September and it will enable her to help her kids.
I knew her uncle and he had told me he wasn't very happy with the way his financial advisor was doing things but sadly he was ill and hadn't the energy to take him on. My friend has asked for my advice and I dont want to wind her up but then nor do I want to ignore possible skulduggery. The solicitor said she would give "the information" after the money was transferred. Presumable the information is the alleged breakdown of her uncles affairs. Any advice would be more than welcome.

Was the uncle US resident? Was the solicitor British?, because they're usually rather coy about estimating the size of bequests until after the estate is fully administered. They seem to have alluded to the possible amount if she feels this is less than expected.
Is the 'some money a specific legacy or a share of the residual estate?
If the former, the uncle's financial position is irrelevant, as long as the gift doesn't fail through lack of funds.
If the latter she will be entitled to a full statement of accounts from the estate.0
