Database of Energy Customers

On the news this evening it suggested that there would be a database created of people who are on higher tariffs. Confirmed in this article http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/05b30f7c-594d-11e6-8d05-4eaa66292c32.html#axzz4GIDjFzO2 I certainly would not want my details on this. I am on the tariff I am on for reasons other than price alone. Anyone know when this will be launched and who will be running it?

No idea, but surely no self respecting MSE'er would be on a higher tariff (essentially those who don't switch so get on the suppliers expensive, default, variable tariff)

Consult a comparison site today to check if you could actually save money - possibly about £350/yr for the average family, if you are indeed languishing on one of those 'higher tariffs':)

Ofgem have launched the proposal. You can find details on their website.

Out of interest, what are the reasons, you are on the tariff you are? Does this mean you will not switch within a three year period? i.e. the qualification period to be on this database.

Maybe there will be opt out clauses? Or just ignore any 'junk' emails.

The proposal is to try and engage non switchers into the competitive market. Wouldn't have been my solution but it's what we are going to get.

The data base is of those who have not switched supplier for over 3 years I think the figure is

The possible erroneous assumption is they are all on higher tariffs, not that they maybe know it and prefer the customer service, or just don't care, or many other reasons.

From what I heard on radio there will be opt out, and anyway the recycling bin is near my letter box

Strange re the link as I found it on Google, I am certainly not subscribed to them. I have my bills with BG as I like to know my bills are up to date. Monthly meter readings via their mobile, monthly payments and bills. Every now and again I review my tariff with them and often swap to a cheaper one. Had several vouchers from them when doing so.

You won't be troubled by these proposals as you are changing tariffs and not on their standard variable.
