My neighbours demolished my fence

Tell them you're thinking of planting a Leylandi (is that the correct spelling?) as you need your privacy, or alternatively they could put the fence back to an acceptable height.0

Thanks for giving an update.
I can see that perhaps replacing the fence wasn't a priority for your landlady but I'm amazed she's so laid back about your neighbours taking a piece of land.
I'm sure the neighbours will be delighted when you put up your trellis as it'll stop their dog from escaping! What a thoughtful person you are.:D0 -
Building regs says 6 foot high max for a fence. You could by a cheap shed and put there instead ..but if you plant a tree they can demand you cut it down if it blocks the light in their house..“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

I have now heard back from the landlady. The people below had asked for her to pay half, however, as I had told her it was half a fence, more of a border, she refused to
Tips
Maybe thats why they put half a fence up as your landlady wouldn't pay for theother half;)“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

Yesterday, both my hubby and his friend visiting from the IW, tried to put up a reed privacy screen.
WW3 broke out, I stayed inside. Hubby was screamed at by the female neighbour, that he was forbidden for putting anything up against HER fence!!!! But it is OUR garden, and the screen was going to be on OUR side. She called her husband, and it got worse. The real shame was that my son that has a lot of problems, as well as learning problems was also subjected to this abuse. They were all called all the names under the sun, and the language, from a woman!!!
Eventually, when the screaming calmed down, I went out with some tea. This time the husband targeted me, the wife just shouted out from her kitchen. I reminded him that we could put up a 2M fence, but actually, it wasn't a fence, but a privacy screen. NO, he wasn't having it. You will take our sunlight, was the reason. I asked him if he really wanted to fall out over a garden fence, and what kind of compromise could we reach. Well NONE actually - You are just tenants was the result.
Lovely world at times.

As long as you don't actually attach this privacy screen/anything else you have in mind to their fence then it's entirely your business that you are doing that.
Go ahead and put up your privacy screen and ignore her.
I know it's easier said than done sometimes when neighbours are pretty much literally screaming the odds. Yep...been in that position myself of doing something I know is absolutely in my garden and I am absolutely legally entitled to do etc and there has been a screaming match. I ignored it.
I have a theory that = the less entitled the neighbour is to "have things THEIR way" then the louder they will scream and try and make out that they are entitled.
These days - I just check and see if whatever-it-is-I want to do is:
- reasonable in the eyes of the "average person in the street" (ie no leylandii then....:rotfl:)
- in my own garden
- legal
If it meets all 3 of those criteria - then blow 'em......and they can scream as much as they please (though, obviously, I hope they don't - as it's most unpleasant to have that going on).0 -

Have you got a washing line in your garden? Go to a charity shops or jumble sale buy the worse looking underwear you can fine and peg it out on the line in front of where they sit! Perhaps they'll be happy with you tasteful privacy screen then.0

It's equal opportunities these days and the "I expect better from a woman, because she's a woman" is long in the past - women's standards are much worse than what a lot of people think.0
