Thanks MEM62. My point though is that why should I have to check whether my information is correct or not in a database that never asked me whether I wanted to be included or not.
Yes, there are free ways of accessing it but the fact that the database providers are obviously taking £12 or so a month off a large number of people suggests that this is not universally realised.

First things first, and the posters above have eluded to this too.

    Your experian score is worthless!

It's an entirely in-house score that no bank / lender will use and is simply there to "gamify" the experian credit portal so people will keep paying to try and "improve their score".

At any rate, a score north of 800 is not bad at all and puts you easily in the getting a mortgage or top credit card ballpark. Like I said however, it's an internal score and not worth a penny!

    Hope that helps!

It really doesn't help, it's just one massive contradiction. The first part is correct, it's worthless and made up, ignore the score, don't worry about it.

You then say a score north of 800 is not bad at all and puts someone in the area of getting a mortgage or words similar. It REALLY doesn't. You know that. Experian the, selves say it's a fair score and don't hype up the chances of getting top credit cards.

Either way it means nothing, and information like yours just perpetuates the credit score myth. I could understand if you just posted the second part, but to start off saying it means nothing is just beyond bizarre, you obviously don't believe it's meaningless!

You don't have to check, there is a glitch that will eventually get sorted out. You should also get a refund, but you could just pay £2 and get the same report, don't pay more than that for it.

Pay £2, get the details then explain to them what is wrong in writing nice and clearly. Their process is slow but you will get there, I had an argument with them over being on the electoral roll, they were saying I wasn't when I was, the head of the service within the council emailed me with the reference numbers and said 'tell them you are on the front page of the updated list'. Experian wouldn't accept the email as I could have forged it. So the council sent me a letter, I sent it to Experian, it took another 8 weeks before they finally accepted I was on the electoral roll.

It's hard work but you will sort it, just don't pay for their service!

As for not wanting to be on the list, well, not a lot you can do about that if you want credit. The credit companies need a way to check people are able to repay, if you don't like the list just don't ask for credit. I Jess we can't expect credit companies to give us credit just because we smile and say we promise to pay them back.
  • Hi I would be so grateful for the phone number you have been calling at Experian. Over the last year I have written to them several times to get my subscription cancelled to no avail. It's costing a fortune and taught me a lesson.
